Sui’s Hashi Plans October Mainnet Launch With $500M in Bitcoin Finance Commitments

Sui says Hashi, its Bitcoin finance infrastructure, is planned to begin a phased mainnet rollout later in October 2026, backed by more than $500 million in capital commitments from a coalition of more than 20 partners. That figure describes commitments—not confirmed deposits, immediately available liquidity or promised returns. Access is expected to open progressively as integrations are completed.

What Hashi is—and what the launch announcement means

Hashi is infrastructure intended to let Bitcoin holders use BTC as collateral in financial applications on Sui. Sui’s October 8, 2026 announcement describes a planned mainnet launch later in October, rather than a rollout already completed. It says access for partners will open in stages as integrations are finished.

The announced backing is more than $500 million in capital commitments from more than 20 launch partners. Sui did not publish a commitment-by-commitment breakdown, say how much BTC or other capital had already been deposited, or specify binding terms. The announcement also does not promise a yield. Treat the figure as committed capital, not as assets already under management or liquidity that users can necessarily access.

Sui’s March 19, 2026 introduction said 0.22% of Bitcoin, or $3.07 billion, was being used in DeFi. That is a figure reported by Sui for March 2026, not an independently established current measure.

Bitkey Bitcoin Hardware Wallet, No Screen - Self-Custody, No Seed Phrase
  • BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
  • SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

How the BTC collateral flow is supposed to work

  1. Deposit native BTC. A user deposits BTC through Hashi; the BTC remains on the Bitcoin network as collateral.
  2. Receive hBTC on Sui. Hashi mints hBTC on Sui against the deposited BTC. The token can then be used by Sui applications.
  3. Use an application. A third-party product may use hBTC for lending, borrowing, credit, a vault or a structured product, depending on what has actually been deployed and integrated.
  4. Exit. On withdrawal through Hashi, hBTC is burned and native BTC is released back to Bitcoin.

Hashi coordinates collateral use through Sui smart contracts; it is not itself a guarantee that a particular lending or vault product is operating, liquid or suitable for a user. The applications are built and offered by third parties, and their availability depends on their deployments and integrations.

Third-party applications

Sui’s announcements describe intended categories including stablecoin lending against BTC, borrowing, credit origination, collateral management, vaults and structured products. They do not establish current product-level rates, supported stablecoins, withdrawal terms or liquidity. Before using any application, check whether that specific product is live and review its collateral and contract design, available liquidity, withdrawal rules and terms.

Which organizations are backing Hashi?

Sui says the launch coalition has more than 20 partners across areas such as custody and wallets, liquidity, applications, infrastructure, vault management, insurance and security. The October 8 announcement names BitGo, Bullish, Cumberland, FalconX and Ledger among the coalition, in addition to Anchorage Digital.

Earlier Sui announcements identify other organizations and roles: Erebor Bank, Fordefi, AlphaLend, Navi, Scallop, Suilend, CF Benchmarks and Cubist appear in the March introduction; the July testnet announcement names additional application, vault, oracle and security partners, including Soter Insure for Bitcoin-denominated institutional insurance. These announcements establish participation or planned roles, not that every partner’s product is currently available on Hashi mainnet.

What Sui says about security—and what remains a risk

Sui says Hashi combines multi-party computation (MPC), Sui smart contracts and a Guardian Layer. Its description says BTC collateral is controlled through a 2-of-2 multisignature arrangement requiring authorization from Hashi validators and the guardian. Sui describes the Guardian Layer as an additional check that can slow or stop suspicious collateral movement.

Sui also says Certora formally verified Hashi’s smart contracts and CommonPrefix conducted a cryptographic security review of the MPC protocol. Those are attributed descriptions of review and verification work, not guarantees against loss, operational failure or every possible vulnerability.

Using Hashi or a product built on it may involve protocol, custody, counterparty, smart-contract, liquidity and collateral-management risks. The launch materials do not quantify those risks or provide enough product-level information to assess or compare individual applications. No principal protection or investment outcome is established by the announcement.

How to assess a Hashi product when access opens

  • Confirm it is actually live. A partner announcement or inclusion in the coalition does not by itself show that its Hashi integration is available.
  • Identify the exact product and assets. Check whether it is lending, borrowing, credit, a vault or a structured product, and which collateral and stablecoin it supports.
  • Understand custody and contract design. Establish how collateral is held and managed, which parties or contracts can authorize movement, and what controls apply.
  • Read liquidity and exit terms. Look for withdrawal conditions, timing, limits and the product’s liquidity arrangements; the coalition commitment figure does not answer those questions.
  • Review product-specific risks and terms. The launch announcements do not state individual yields, fees or binding product terms, so do not infer them from Hashi’s launch backing.

In his October 8 announcement, Mysten Labs co-founder and Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun said, “Bitcoin has already become a global reserve asset, and today, the financial infrastructure around it is catching up.” Anchorage Digital CEO and co-founder Nathan McCauley said institutions’ ability to use their Bitcoin capital had been constrained by available technology and DeFi limitations. These are the executives’ views on the motivation for Hashi, not evidence of a specific product’s performance or availability.
