Qwen2.5 itself can run locally through tools such as Ollama; that does not establish that a particular app keeps all study data on your device.
What is StudyBuddy Local?
The name refers to an AI study companion said to use Qwen 2.5. No verifiable project page, repository, or privacy documentation is available to confirm that it is a released application or to establish its features, supported operating systems, or implementation. Treat the app-specific description as unverified unless its developer provides documentation.

Can Qwen2.5 run locally?
Yes. Qwen’s September 19, 2024 release describes Qwen2.5 as a family of language models available in 0.5B, 1.5B, 3B, 7B, 14B, 32B, and 72B parameter sizes, and names Ollama, MLX, llama.cpp, LM Studio, and Jan as local-running options. Qwen’s Qwen2.5 release announcement provides the family overview. Ollama also documents a local-use path for Qwen2.5, model sizes, multilingual support, and contexts up to 128K tokens in its Qwen2.5 model library. These sources establish that local inference is possible; they do not establish which checkpoint StudyBuddy Local uses, how it performs on a particular computer, or whether its app sends other data online.

There is no verified StudyBuddy Local model selection or hardware specification to guide a definitive recommendation. The listed parameter sizes are choices within a model family, not performance guarantees. Consider your device, the tasks you need, and measured speed and quality for the exact checkpoint and runtime. Do not infer a device requirement or speed ranking from the model library alone.

Qwen2.5 also includes specialized Coder and Math families. Their existence does not show that a study companion uses them; confirm the exact model name in the app or its documentation before relying on a subject-specific capability.
Does local AI mean your study data stays private?
No. A model can process prompts on your machine while the surrounding application still makes network requests or stores data elsewhere. For StudyBuddy Local, no privacy policy or data-flow documentation is available to establish whether prompts, notes, logs, telemetry, backups, updates, or cloud fallback leave the device. Until those details are documented, do not assume the app is fully private or offline.

Before entering personal or sensitive study material, look for an app privacy policy and clear answers about:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Whether requests are sent to a cloud service, including as a fallback.
- Whether prompts, documents, or conversation history are stored, and where.
- What telemetry is collected and whether it can be disabled.
- How local files, backups, and application logs are handled.
- Whether the app contacts servers for updates or other functions.
Can you use Qwen2.5 commercially?
Check the license for the exact checkpoint and intended use. Qwen states that Qwen2.5 models are licensed under Apache 2.0 except for the 3B and 72B variants; the Ollama library repeats that distinction. The release announcement links to the model repositories, where license files can be checked. Do not assume every size has the same terms, and review the full applicable license before redistribution or commercial use.

The retrieved Qwen 72B license text includes attribution-notice requirements for distributed copies and prominent “Built with Qwen” or “Improved using Qwen” language in related product documentation in specified circumstances involving use of Qwen materials or outputs to create, train, fine-tune, or improve a distributed AI model. This is a limited description of that license text, not a substitute for reviewing the complete current license for the checkpoint you use. Ollama’s Qwen2.5 library links model information; consult the relevant repository’s license directly for the selected model.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do Qwen’s published benchmarks establish?
Qwen’s 2024 release post reports “MMLU: 85+,” “HumanEval 85+,” and “MATH 80+,” and describes pretraining data at “up to 18 trillion tokens.” These are Qwen Team claims in the release, not independent evaluations of StudyBuddy Local or guarantees of accuracy for a student’s assignment. In particular, HumanEval is a coding benchmark and does not establish study quality. To interpret benchmark numbers, a reader would need the specific checkpoint, benchmark version, and evaluation conditions.

What remains to be verified about StudyBuddy Local?
Before choosing the named app, seek documentation identifying the developer and repository, the exact Qwen2.5 checkpoint, installation and operating-system support, hardware guidance, privacy and data-retention practices, and applicable model license. Without that evidence, Qwen2.5’s local availability is useful context but not proof of the app’s features, compatibility, privacy, or educational results.
