For most small hotel websites, the useful starting point is accurate LocalBusiness markup using the most specific subtype that fits the business, plus relevant Organization details on the homepage or a dedicated organization page. Add other properties only when they accurately describe the hotel or support a feature for which the page is eligible. Structured data can help Google understand a page and may make it eligible for supported search features; it does not guarantee a particular display.
Start with what the page is for
Choose markup according to the page’s role and the result you want—not because one schema type is assumed to rank better. A hotel’s business page, its organization information, and a page listing multiple properties have different purposes.

| Page role or goal | Markup to consider | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Describe one hotel as a local business | The most specific applicable LocalBusiness subtype, with accurate identity and contact details |
Use properties that fit the business and are consistent with visible page content. Google’s Local Business guidance explains supported fields and general requirements. |
| Identify the hotel’s official organization | Suitable Organization information |
Google recommends a specific subtype where applicable and suggests placing this markup on the homepage or a single organization page, rather than repeating it across every page. See Google’s Organization guidance. |
| Represent a hotel as an item in a qualifying list or summary | Potentially amenityFeature and priceRange for the documented LocalBusiness carousel use |
The carousel is beta, and this guidance concerns eligible carousel item markup—not a blanket reason to add these fields to every hotel page. See Google’s Carousels (Beta) documentation. |
| Seek review stars for the hotel’s own reviews | Do not use self-controlled guest reviews or ratings to seek the review star feature | Google excludes local businesses and organizations that control reviews about themselves from this feature. See Google’s review snippet guidance. |
| Mark up a vacation rental | VacationRental only for a genuinely eligible integration |
It is not generic hotel markup: Google’s pathway requires Hotel Center access and connection with a Google Technical Account Manager, among other eligibility and integration requirements. See Google’s Vacation Rental documentation. |
What belongs on a hotel’s business page
Use the most specific LocalBusiness subtype that accurately describes the hotel, then add relevant, correct business information. The practical foundation is the hotel’s name, physical address, telephone number, website URL, and opening hours where applicable. Make sure these values agree with what visitors can see on the page.

Do not treat the property list as a checklist to fill at any cost. A field earns its place when it is accurate, applicable, and useful for describing the business or its page. Google’s documentation covers the supported LocalBusiness properties and structured data requirements.
#1 Best Overall
Where Organization information fits
Organization markup describes the hotel’s official identity, rather than replacing the location-specific information on a hotel business page. Add applicable organization details where they clarify who operates or represents the business. Google recommends using the most specific suitable subtype and placing this markup on the homepage or one page describing the organization; it need not be repeated sitewide.
When amenities and price range make sense
Google documents amenityFeature for LodgingBusiness and priceRange among recommended properties for its beta carousel. That use is tied to a hotel represented as an eligible item on a qualifying list or summary page. It is not evidence that adding these properties to every individual hotel page will produce a carousel or improve its search appearance.
Only include amenity and price information that is accurate for the property and appropriate to the page. Check Google’s current beta feature requirements before treating carousel eligibility as a goal; beta status and eligibility do not guarantee that Google will show the feature.

A hotel cannot qualify for Google’s review star feature by marking up reviews or aggregate ratings that it controls about itself. Google’s review snippet guidance says local businesses and organizations that control reviews about themselves are ineligible, and ratings must come directly from users. Do not add this markup to a hotel-controlled page as a shortcut to stars.

Why VacationRental is not a hotel shortcut
VacationRental is a specific Google integration path, not a general-purpose schema type for any business selling lodging. Google’s instructions require access to Hotel Center and a connection to a Google Technical Account Manager, along with additional eligibility and integration steps. The listing also has required content, including accommodation and occupancy details, a stable identifier, images, location, and name. Use it only when the property and integration genuinely meet Google’s requirements.
Validate the markup and the live page
Google recommends testing structured data, checking the deployed URL, and ensuring the page is accessible to Google. A technically valid page may be eligible for a feature without appearing in that format; Google also notes that recrawling and re-indexing can take several days.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Rank #4
- Add only applicable properties. Follow the requirements for the specific feature and Google’s general structured data policies. Keep markup consistent with visible page content.
- Run the Rich Results Test. Use Google’s test to check whether the markup is valid for supported rich result features.
- Inspect the deployed URL. Use URL Inspection in Search Console to check the live page after publishing, rather than relying only on a test of draft code.
- Confirm Google can crawl it. Check that the page is not blocked by
robots.txt, anoindexdirective, or a login requirement. - Allow time for recrawling. Google says recrawling and re-indexing may take several days; a valid result does not guarantee a particular search display.
