Strike Gundam Model Kit Grades Explained: Entry Grade, High Grade, Real Grade, and Master Grade

Strike Gundam grades are different product-line priorities, not a strict difficulty ladder. Compare EG, HG, RG, and MG by scale, detail, build commitment, and exact Strike configuration.

Entry Grade, High Grade, Real Grade, and Master Grade are different design priorities, not steps on a single difficulty ladder. Bandai positions Entry Grade (EG) as an easy first build, High Grade (HG) as a broad 1/144 collectible line, Real Grade (RG) as a highly detailed and articulated 1/144 line, and Master Grade (MG) as a larger 1/100 format with extensive detail and gimmicks. For a Strike Gundam, the right choice depends on the exact configuration, scale, display space, and build experience you want.

What the four grades actually mean

A grade label identifies a product line’s priorities. It does not guarantee that every kit in a higher grade is harder, better, or equipped with more accessories than every kit below it. Bandai’s individual designs differ, and a Strike-family kit can depict the original Strike, Aile Strike, Perfect Strike, Strike Rouge, or another variant.

Bandai’s Find Your Perfect Gunpla! guide, published by BANDAI HOBBY SITE SATELLITE in 2023, gives useful representative figures for each line. Those figures are approximate examples and Japan guide prices from that guide, not universal specifications or current 2026 retail prices.

Grade Bandai’s line emphasis Representative scale and guide figures (2023) Best reason to choose it
Entry Grade (EG) Beginner-oriented, easy assembly 1/144; about 12 cm; about 74 parts; JPY 700 before tax Lowest-friction first Strike build
High Grade (HG) Broad, collectible range designed to be easy to assemble 1/144; about 13 cm; about 150 parts; JPY 1,000–2,000 Series coverage and a familiar 1/144 format
Real Grade (RG) Realistic color, mechanical texture, movement, and an inner-frame concept 1/144; about 13 cm; about 250 parts; JPY 2,500–3,000 Fine detail and articulation without moving to 1/100 scale
Master Grade (MG) Precise detail, mobility, inner detail, and gimmicks in a larger format 1/100; about 18 cm; about 260 parts; JPY 3,000–5,000 A larger display model with a more involved build

The part counts, dimensions, and prices in that table belong to the guide’s representative category examples. A particular Strike kit can be larger, smaller, more complex, or packaged differently. Treat the numbers as orientation, then check the complete product name and current specifications before buying.

Entry Grade Strike Gundam: the easiest starting point

Entry Grade is the clearest choice when your priority is getting a Strike Gundam built with as little friction as possible. Bandai describes the line as suitable for a first experience and emphasizes easy assembly. The 2023 guide’s representative EG is a 1/144 model of about 12 cm with about 74 parts and a Japan guide price of JPY 700 before tax.

The specific EG Strike to look for

Bandai’s catalog lists ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam (Gundam SEED), product number 2582155, released in Japan on 2022-01-15. That is a complete product identity, not merely a reference to the grade. The catalog also lists a distinct Entry Grade Strike Gundam Lite Package variant. Confirm whether a listing is the standard kit or the Lite Package version before ordering; packaging and included contents should not be assumed to be identical.

What the EG choice is good for

  • A first Gunpla project or a quick, low-commitment build.
  • A 1/144 Strike silhouette that fits the same general display scale as HG and RG.
  • Builders who care more about straightforward assembly than maximum surface detail.

Entry Grade does not mean an inferior character design. It means the line allocates its design effort toward accessibility. If you want dense mechanical texture, numerous display gimmicks, or a larger presence on a shelf, another line may suit you better even if you are new to model kits.

High Grade Strike kits: the broad 1/144 middle ground

High Grade is the most expansive general-purpose category. Bandai positions HG as a broad collectible line that is easy to assemble, and its 1/144 format makes it practical for collecting multiple mobile suits or building a scene. The guide’s representative HG example is about 13 cm, uses about 150 parts, and carries a Japan guide price of JPY 1,000–2,000.

Why choose HG

  • Range: HG is commonly used across many series and variants, so it is a natural place to compare different Strike-family configurations.
  • Scale consistency: At 1/144, an HG Strike can sit beside an EG or RG model without the size jump of an MG.
  • Balanced commitment: It generally asks for more assembly than the representative EG while remaining less detail-focused than the representative RG.

Those are line-level tendencies, not promises for every box. A particular HG may include a larger weapon set, an optional pack, or a more involved transformation than another HG. Read the exact product description rather than using “HG Strike” as if it identified one universal kit.

HG and the Strike family

Bandai’s catalog contains HG products from the Strike family, but the catalog evidence does not make every HG entry the original Strike Gundam in the same configuration. A listing may represent a related machine, a different equipment pack, or a later design. Record the full name—including any pack or variant—when you compare kits.

Real Grade Strike kits: maximum 1/144 detail

Real Grade keeps the compact 1/144 scale but concentrates on realistic visual treatment. Bandai describes RG through color separation, mechanical texture, movement, and an inner-frame concept. Its representative guide figures are about 13 cm and about 250 parts, with a Japan guide price of JPY 2,500–3,000 in the 2023 guide.

What the RG premium buys

  • Surface and color treatment: Small armor sections and contrasting colors can produce a more intricate appearance at the same overall height.
  • Mechanical presentation: The line is intended to suggest the construction and texture of a real machine rather than a simplified toy-like surface.
  • Posing focus: Movement is a central part of RG positioning, useful if you plan dynamic poses instead of a static stance.

“Inner frame” is a line concept, not a guarantee that every RG Strike-related kit uses exactly the same internal engineering. Fine parts can also make an RG more demanding to handle than an EG or many HG kits. That is a trade-off: you receive more visual and articulation detail at the same 1/144 footprint, but you should expect a more involved assembly and more care when posing.

Which Strike configuration is associated with RG?

The catalog evidence specifically includes RG Aile Strike-related products. That does not establish that every RG listing is the original, un-equipped Strike Gundam. If your target is the Aile configuration, confirm that “Aile Strike” appears in the complete product name and that the package includes the equipment you want.

Master Grade Strike kits: a larger, feature-rich display model

Master Grade moves to a representative 1/100 scale. Bandai’s guide describes MG as combining precise detail and gimmicks with mobility and inner detail. The guide’s example is about 18 cm, about 260 parts, and JPY 3,000–5,000 in Japan before any local retailer pricing, taxes, or shipping.

Why MG requires more planning

The larger scale creates room for bigger armor panels, more visible internal structure, and mechanisms that would be difficult to show at 1/144. It also consumes more shelf depth and makes the completed model a more prominent display object. A build with roughly the guide’s representative 260 parts is a longer commitment than the representative EG, although exact part counts and complexity vary by kit.

MG is the sensible direction when you want the Strike to be the centerpiece of a display, prefer a larger silhouette, or value mechanical detail and gimmicks over a compact collection. It is not automatically the right choice for a beginner: a first-time builder may prefer EG or HG, while an experienced builder who wants maximum detail in a small footprint may prefer RG.

Strike variant to verify

Bandai’s catalog evidence includes MG Perfect Strike-related products. Perfect Strike combines equipment in a way that is distinct from the standard Strike and from Aile Strike. Do not buy an MG described only as “Strike” without checking whether it is the Perfect Strike version or another release.

Why “Strike Gundam” is not one single kit

The name can refer to a mobile suit design, a specific release, or a configuration with additional equipment. Across Bandai’s catalog, the relevant entries include the EG Strike Gundam, HG Strike-family products, RG Aile Strike-related products, and MG Perfect Strike-related products. These are not four versions of the same box in four grades.

  1. Write the complete product name. Include the grade, scale, series designation, and any pack or variant such as Aile, Perfect, Rouge, or Lite Package.
  2. Check the product number when one is supplied. The standard EG 1/144 Strike Gundam is product number 2582155.
  3. Confirm included equipment. A photo showing a striker pack does not prove that every accessory is in the box; read the package contents for the exact release.
  4. Separate catalog identity from retailer wording. Marketplace titles can shorten names or combine photographs from related products.

Entry Grade vs High Grade: which 1/144 build is right?

Choose EG when… Choose HG when…
You want the simplest first Strike build. You want access to a wider family of 1/144 releases.
Lower part count and lower guide-era price are priorities. You want a middle-ground build with more parts and options than the representative EG.
You are satisfied with the specific standard or Lite Package configuration you found. You are choosing among a named Strike-family machine or equipment pack.

The choice is not a contest in which HG always replaces EG. EG is intentionally optimized for a low-friction first experience; HG gives you a broader platform for series collecting and variant selection.

Real Grade vs Master Grade: detail at different scales

Choose RG when… Choose MG when…
You want fine mechanical texture and articulation at 1/144. You want a larger 1/100 display presence.
Your shelf has limited depth or you collect at 1/144. You have room for a model around the guide’s representative 18 cm height.
You prefer a compact model with a high detail-to-size ratio. You value larger inner details, mobility, and gimmicks.
You are comfortable handling many small parts. You are willing to spend more time on a larger, feature-rich build.

The guide’s representative figures put RG and MG at similar approximate part counts—about 250 and 260 respectively—but those numbers do not make their construction identical. RG concentrates complexity into a 1/144 model; MG distributes detail and mechanisms across a larger 1/100 frame.

How to choose a Strike Gundam kit step by step

  1. Set your display scale. Choose among the 1/144 EG, HG, and RG families if you want a compact shelf. Choose MG’s representative 1/100 format when a larger centerpiece is the goal.
  2. Set your build commitment. Start with EG for the lowest-friction route, consider HG for a moderate build, and select RG or MG when detailed assembly is part of the appeal.
  3. Choose the configuration before the grade. Decide whether you want the original Strike, Aile Strike, Perfect Strike, Strike Rouge, or another named variant.
  4. List the equipment you expect. Compare the stated contents for swords, launchers, shields, striker packs, stands, and optional parts. Grade names alone do not specify accessories.
  5. Measure your shelf and pose clearance. The guide’s approximate heights are 12–13 cm for its EG, HG, and RG examples and about 18 cm for its MG example; pose arms, packs, and stands can require additional width and depth.
  6. Check the market you will buy from. The guide’s JPY figures are Japan references from 2023. Your country’s price, tax, shipping, stock, and reissue timing can differ substantially.
  7. Verify the final listing. Match the complete name, product number where available, scale, configuration, and package contents before placing the order.

What the published prices do—and do not—tell you

The 2023 guide’s Japan references are useful for understanding relative positioning: EG is shown below HG, RG is positioned above HG, and MG occupies the larger premium format. They are not a 2026 price list. Retail prices vary by country, seller, taxes, shipping, exchange rates, reissues, and limited packaging.

Do not infer current value from part count alone. A kit with fewer parts can be the better purchase if it matches your preferred configuration and display scale; a higher-priced kit may be worthwhile for its articulation, inner detail, or included equipment. Compare like with like: standard Strike against standard Strike, Aile against Aile, and Perfect Strike against Perfect Strike.

Treating the grade as a universal difficulty score

Bandai’s lines have different priorities, and individual engineering varies. Use the grade as a starting signal, not a guarantee of a particular build time or challenge.

Using guide-era prices as current quotes

The published numbers come from a 2023 Japan guide. Check a current retailer serving your region for the actual amount and stock status.

Ignoring package labels

Standard and Lite Package versions can be distinct products. Read the exact label and contents instead of relying on a shortened marketplace title or a photograph.

Choosing RG or MG without planning the display

RG preserves 1/144 scale but can have many small, detail-focused parts. MG is physically larger and may need more shelf space. Make sure the scale and handling demands fit your room and experience.

Quick decision guide

  • “I want my first Strike Gundam and the least complicated route.” Choose the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam (Gundam SEED), product number 2582155, after confirming whether the listing is the standard or Lite Package version.
  • “I want a 1/144 collection and several Strike-family choices.” Start with an HG release whose complete product name identifies the machine and equipment.
  • “I want the most intricate look without leaving 1/144.” Look for an RG release and verify whether it is the Aile Strike-related configuration you want.
  • “I want a large centerpiece with inner detail and gimmicks.” Consider an MG release, checking whether the catalog name identifies Perfect Strike or another configuration.

The grade narrows the kind of experience you want; the exact product name determines what you will actually build.
