Neither Streamlabs Desktop nor XSplit Broadcaster is proven more reliable for running a YouTube channel 24/7. The available documentation compares system requirements, encoding options, network guidance and YouTube controls, but provides no controlled endurance test or uptime commitment for either application. Choose the one that fits your operating system, PC and workflow, then test the complete setup for an extended period and plan how you will detect and recover from interruptions.
Streamlabs Desktop vs XSplit Broadcaster at a glance
| Decision point | Streamlabs Desktop | XSplit Broadcaster |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Minimum guidance: Windows 11 or macOS 12 or later, according to Streamlabs’ system-requirements page updated April 8, 2026. Streamlabs requirements | Windows 10/11 64-bit; XSplit says there is no Mac version planned, according to its support page updated November 11, 2025. XSplit requirements |
| Hardware guidance | 8 GB RAM minimum; vendor recommends 16 GB or more, a Core i5 11th/12th generation or higher or Ryzen 5000 series or higher, a listed newer NVIDIA or AMD graphics card, and 512 GB or larger SSD. Recommendations vary with content, overlays, plugins and other applications. Streamlabs requirements | Vendor minimums: second-generation Core i5, 8 GB RAM, GeForce or Radeon graphics supporting DirectX 10.1 or later, and 250 MB free storage. These minimums do not guarantee a particular scene or continuous workload. XSplit requirements |
| Published upload guidance | Recommends Ethernet and says 3.6 Mbps or better for 720p/30 fps on most platforms. Streamlabs requirements | Lists 500 kbps minimum upload for its lowest settings; its product page recommends 5 Mbps for HD. The contexts differ, so these figures are not a like-for-like efficiency comparison. XSplit requirements XSplit product page |
| Encoding | Explains CPU-based x264 and GPU-based NVENC; recommends NVENC New for NVIDIA graphics cards. Streamlabs encoding guide | Advertises NVIDIA NVENC, including AV1 support. This is a feature description, not a comparative performance result. XSplit product page |
| YouTube and multiple outputs | YouTube requires the server URL and stream key in the encoder/RTMP settings. YouTube encoder guide | Provides YouTube output configuration, including event details and a backup-server option. Simultaneous multistreaming requires a Premium License, according to its product page. XSplit YouTube guide XSplit product page |
These are vendor-published specifications, not guarantees of stability. A machine can meet minimums and still struggle with a particular resolution, frame rate, scene, driver, network or background workload.

Which application fits your channel?
Choose Streamlabs Desktop if macOS support matters
Streamlabs lists macOS 12 or later in its minimum OS guidance, while XSplit says Broadcaster has no Mac version planned. Check the current application requirements before installation, especially if your Mac or Windows version is near the stated minimum. Streamlabs’ higher hardware figures are recommendations rather than a promise that a continuous stream will work under every load.
Choose based on your actual encoding workload
With Streamlabs, x264 shifts encoding work to the CPU; NVENC uses a dedicated GPU encoder. Streamlabs recommends NVENC New for NVIDIA GPUs. XSplit lists NVIDIA NVENC, including AV1 support. Neither feature list establishes which application will deliver better performance on your specific computer. Match encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity to the hardware you will leave running.

Compare network figures in context
Streamlabs recommends Ethernet and gives 3.6 Mbps or better for 720p at 30 fps on most platforms. XSplit states 500 kbps minimum upload for its lowest settings and recommends 5 Mbps for HD on its product page. Because those numbers refer to different quality contexts, they do not show that one program is more network-efficient. Use a wired connection where practical and check that your sustained upload capacity has room beyond the stream’s configured bitrate.
Consider YouTube controls and multistreaming
XSplit’s YouTube workflow documents event title, description, tags, category, privacy, latency and DVR settings, as well as a backup-server option. The documentation does not quantify failover or promise uninterrupted service. XSplit’s product page says simultaneous multistreaming requires a Premium License; check current tier terms if that is part of your workflow. The reviewed Streamlabs documentation does not establish a directly comparable license limit here.

Set up YouTube output and protect the channel workflow
- Prepare YouTube Live. Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio and identify its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter these in the encoder’s RTMP or streaming settings. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the channel. YouTube encoder guide
- Configure the encoder. In Streamlabs or XSplit, select YouTube or custom RTMP as appropriate, then enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. In XSplit’s YouTube output setup, configure the event details and settings needed for that broadcast, such as title, privacy, latency and DVR. Confirm that the output is associated with the intended event before going live. XSplit YouTube guide
- Check the chosen settings on the target PC. Match resolution, frame rate and bitrate to your source material, computer and available upload capacity. Watch for encoder overload, dropped frames, overheating and audio or video drift during a sustained test. The cited vendor minimums are not guarantees for your particular workload.
- Test the full chain for an extended period. Use the same machine, network, encoder, scene, YouTube event configuration and stream key arrangement you intend to rely on. Check local logs and YouTube’s live status, and test what happens after a brief network interruption or application restart. This is a practical precaution, not evidence that either application has a specific uptime record.
- Plan detection and recovery. Decide who or what will notice a disconnect, how the encoder will be restarted, and how you will verify that YouTube is receiving the stream again. A desktop encoder depends on the PC, power, operating system, network and application remaining available; plan for those dependencies rather than assuming a backup setting or a long test removes them.
Continuous-stream details YouTube does and does not establish
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” This is archive guidance: it does not promise that an encoder will remain connected for 24 hours, and it does not establish that streams longer than 12 hours are prohibited. If preserving a complete replay matters for an all-day channel, verify the archive behavior for the exact workflow you use. YouTube also says YouTube Partner Program members can monetize live streams; eligibility and applicable channel policies still matter. YouTube encoder guide
Recommended Free Tools
Continuous programming does not exempt a channel from copyright or YouTube monetization rules. Use material you own or have permission to stream, and check the platform’s current policies for reused content and live streaming before building a schedule around recordings. Do not assume that an uninterrupted broadcast is automatically eligible for monetization.

Cost and license considerations
XSplit’s product page describes a free tier that streams up to 720p without a watermark, paid tiers, and a Premium License requirement for simultaneous multistreaming. Tier details can change, so confirm current terms directly before choosing a plan. The reviewed sources do not establish that paying for either desktop application buys 24/7 uptime or recovery coverage. XSplit Broadcaster
For either desktop setup, include the practical cost of a computer left running, electricity, dependable internet and any backup power or monitoring you decide you need. Streamlabs recommends Ethernet, but its documentation does not specify a required cable category or claim that a particular cable guarantees uptime. A wired connection is a setup choice, not a reliability guarantee.
