They are different things: looping a YouTube video repeats playback of one video in the YouTube player; streaming through Streamlabs Desktop sends a creator-produced feed to YouTube as a livestream. A playlist is an ordered collection of multiple videos, but Streamlabs’ documentation for adding a YouTube playlist as a browser source does not establish a built-in playlist player or specific looping and transition controls.
Looping a video, playing a playlist, and livestreaming are not the same
Looping one video
A loop repeats the same video in a player. It does not, by itself, create a livestream or send a live encoder feed to a YouTube watch page.

Playing a playlist
A YouTube playlist organizes multiple videos in an order. YouTube Help documents creating, managing, and reordering playlists; that organization does not mean that playback in a YouTube player is being broadcast live by your channel.

Streaming with an encoder
YouTube describes encoder streaming as a way to send a live feed from software or hardware to YouTube. Streamlabs Desktop is creator-side production software: you can connect it to YouTube and assemble sources into a scene before sending the feed. It is the relevant workflow when the goal is an actual livestream rather than repeat playback for yourself.

What Streamlabs Desktop documents for playlists
Streamlabs’ browser-source documentation describes adding a web-based URL as a source, including an example involving a YouTube playlist. That supports using a browser source to display a web page; it does not establish that Streamlabs Desktop has a native playlist-media player or specify repeat behavior, video-to-video transitions, or recovery controls for playlist playback.
Because those details are not established by the cited documentation, do not assume that a playlist URL will behave like a purpose-built media playlist inside a stream. Check the current Streamlabs Desktop version and test the intended playback, transitions, and continuity before relying on it for a broadcast.

Choose the workflow that matches your goal
| Your goal | Workflow | What it does—and does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one video for playback | Use a loop in the YouTube player. | Repeats one video; it is not the encoder-based livestream workflow documented by YouTube. |
| Organize several videos | Create and order a YouTube playlist. | Provides an ordered collection; playlist management alone does not broadcast the videos live. |
| Broadcast a produced feed live | Connect an encoder such as Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube. | Sends the creator’s live feed to YouTube. You remain responsible for configuring and running the broadcast. |
| Show a playlist page within a Streamlabs scene | Try a Streamlabs browser source using the playlist URL. | Streamlabs documents a URL-based browser source, but the cited guide does not confirm native playlist playback, looping, transitions, or uninterrupted continuity. |
Set up an actual YouTube livestream with Streamlabs Desktop
Interface labels can change, so use the current Streamlabs and YouTube Studio screens rather than relying on a fixed label sequence. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes connecting with the stream URL and stream key; if Streamlabs offers an integrated YouTube connection in your current setup, follow its connection flow instead.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Enable live streaming and prepare YouTube Studio. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio and follow its current live setup prompts.
- Connect Streamlabs Desktop. Use the integrated connection if available, or enter the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key as private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Build the scene and check audio/video. Add the sources you want viewers to see and hear, then confirm the preview and audio before going live. Streamlabs’ YouTube guide covers connecting the software and adding sources.
- Start sending the feed, then follow YouTube’s live controls. Confirm that YouTube Studio receives the encoder feed and use its current controls to start and manage the broadcast. Starting playback in a YouTube player is not a substitute for this encoder connection.
- Plan around archiving. YouTube’s current Help guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the current Help page and your Studio settings when planning a longer broadcast; do not assume a stream beyond that duration will be archived.
Using a YouTube playlist as a Streamlabs browser source
If your goal is to show a playlist page within a produced scene, the documented approach is to add a browser source and provide a web-based URL. The guide supports that general source workflow, but it does not confirm the playlist’s repeat behavior, transitions, or whether playback will continue reliably for the length of a stream.

- Test the playlist in the current Desktop version before a public broadcast.
- Check what appears in the scene and whether the source behaves as intended when the playlist advances.
- Do not treat a displayed playlist page as proof that each video is being transmitted as a separate live video feed, or that the result meets YouTube monetization or copyright requirements.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Neither looping a video nor putting a playlist URL in a browser source gives you rights to rebroadcast its content. Before streaming, make sure you have the necessary rights for the video, music, and other material you use. YouTube’s encoder and playlist guides explain setup and organization; they do not grant permission to rebroadcast content or determine whether a channel meets monetization rules. Review YouTube’s current policies for your specific content and use case.
