What happens to show history and recommendations depends on the service and profile. Netflix’s separate device and profile controls illustrate the distinction, but menus and policies vary by app and region.
What signing out does—and does not do
Signing out ends the app session on that TV. The next person using the app generally needs to sign in again to access the account. Signing out alone is not a request to delete the account or profile, and it should not be treated as a command to erase viewing history. Streaming services manage device access and profile information separately.

For Netflix, the distinction is visible in its account controls: device access is managed through Manage Access and Devices, while a profile’s watched titles are listed under viewing activity. Those separate controls are a reason not to assume that a TV sign-out deletes shows from a profile’s history.

How to check what was watched
Netflix
- In a web browser, open your Netflix Account page.
- Open Profiles and select the profile you want to check.
- Choose Viewing activity to see shows and movies watched on that profile. Netflix also provides Show More and a Download all option for a CSV list.
Viewing activity is associated with the selected profile, so check the profile that was used on the shared TV. This is different from checking which devices can still access the account.

Disney+ says profiles keep track of favorite shows and movies and use watch history for recommendations. Its account guidance also describes viewing or logging out devices from the Account page, but exact menu steps and the effect of signing out on particular data are not established here. How to sign a TV out when you cannot reach it
Netflix: revoke one device or all devices
- Open Netflix’s Manage Access and Devices page from a browser or supported account settings.
- Choose the TV or device and select Sign Out. The page also offers Sign Out of All Devices if you need to revoke access more broadly.
The device list is not necessarily immediate or complete: Netflix says a device can take up to 48 hours to appear, and some may not be listed. Examples include devices inactive for 90 days and devices used only for Netflix games or Tudum. If you cannot find the TV, do not assume that its absence proves it has no access; use Netflix’s current account-security guidance if you remain concerned.

When the TV is nearby
Open the streaming app’s profile or account menu on the TV and choose its sign-out option. The wording and location vary by service and TV platform. A sign-out performed on the TV is a local app action; check the service’s account settings separately if you also need to review or revoke other devices.
Device limits are service- and region-specific
Do not apply one service’s device policy to another, or assume a rule is worldwide. For example, Prime Video’s cited device-removal policy applies to India and says customers can remove up to two devices within a 30-day period; its limits differ by membership type. See the Prime Video India device-limits guidance for the applicable membership details. That figure is not a universal Prime Video limit.

When checking another service, look specifically for whether it supports local sign-out, remote sign-out of one device, sign-out of all devices, and separate profile-history controls. The available policies differ, so use the official instructions for the service, membership, and country shown on your account.

If you are worried someone used your account
- Review the relevant profile’s viewing activity if your concern is what was watched; on Netflix, use Account > Profiles > profile > Viewing activity.
- Review account device controls and sign out devices you do not recognize where the service allows it.
- If access continues or appears unauthorized, follow that service’s official account-security guidance. Do not assume signing out of one TV changes your password or ends every other session unless the service says so.
