To stop a VIZIO TV from speaking when you change settings, turn off Talk Back: press Menu, open Accessibility, choose Talk Back, and disable it. VIZIO uses “Talk Back” for the text-to-speech feature some viewers call Voice Guide. Menu labels vary by TV generation.
Turn off Talk Back in the TV settings
- Press Menu on the VIZIO remote.
- Open Accessibility.
- Select Talk Back and turn it off.
VIZIO describes Talk Back as text-to-speech for TV setting changes. The current menu path is Menu → Accessibility → Talk Back, though the sidebar and labels may look different depending on the TV model.

If your VIZIO menu looks different
On some older models, open Menu → System → Accessibility, then switch Talk Back to Off. An older VIZIO guide documents this route, so try it if Accessibility is not directly in the Menu.

Shortcuts depend on the remote; use the on-screen settings if yours lacks the listed button or a shortcut does not work.

- Voice command: On a remote with a microphone button, say “Disable Talk Back.”
- CC button: On remotes with a CC button, hold it for 5 seconds to open the accessibility menu.
- PIC button: On remotes with a PIC button, hold it for 5 seconds to toggle text-to-speech off; holding it again for 5 seconds turns the feature back on.
VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual also identifies a PIC button on its remote. For that model family, the menu route remains a clear option; during setup, pressing MUTE enables text-to-speech.
If narration continues during a program
Check Video Description separately from Talk Back. VIZIO lists it as a different accessibility feature: it narrates key visual elements for select content. Talk Back covers spoken feedback for TV setting changes, so turning it off may not stop narration tied to a show.
