If your Samsung TV keeps changing to an HDMI input on its own, first update the TV, then use Samsung’s remote-specific procedure to disable automatic HDMI switching. The usual cause is Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): a connected device can tell the TV to turn on or select its input. If switching continues, identify the device sending the signal and check its firmware.
Why a Samsung TV changes sources by itself
Anynet+ is Samsung’s name for HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (HDMI-CEC). When enabled, compatible devices connected over HDMI can communicate with the TV. A device powering on or starting playback may prompt the TV to switch to its input. Samsung also notes that a device can send an erroneous signal and trigger a change even while it is not in use. See Samsung’s source-switching troubleshooting guide.

This is expected CEC behavior when a device requests control, but it is disruptive when you want to stay on another source. Disabling automatic switching or Anynet+ can stop it; turning Anynet+ off also removes related HDMI control functions.

Update the TV software before trying the button sequence. Samsung says some models gained the automatic-switching control through a software update. The procedure depends on whether the remote is an IR remote or a Smart Remote; do not combine the sequences. Samsung says neither sequence displays an on-screen confirmation.

Choose the Anynet+ control to turn it off. This may also stop compatible devices from being controlled with the TV remote or powering connected equipment on and off. Samsung’s Anynet+ guide notes that menu options vary by model. If you cannot find the setting, consult the manual for your TV’s model code rather than assuming the feature is available.

If the TV still switches, find the device sending the signal
If the problem persists, test connected devices individually. If one device appears to trigger the change, check for a firmware update or contact its manufacturer. You can also look for a setting to disable CEC on that device if you want to retain Anynet+ for other equipment. Samsung specifically recommends checking the external device’s firmware when it sends unwanted signals.

For broader Anynet+ communication problems, Samsung recommends these checks:
- Confirm the connected device supports Anynet+.
- Check that HDMI connections use high-speed HDMI cables. If communication is unreliable, try another cable; a cable change is not a guaranteed fix for source switching.
- Unplug connected devices for a few minutes, then reconnect them.
- Check for firmware updates on the devices.
- Consider a TV factory reset only if the problem continues after the other checks.

Choose the fix that preserves the controls you use
| Option | Best when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Disable automatic switching with the remote sequence | You want to stop source changes and your TV supports the procedure. | Requires the correct sequence for your remote and TV software; the TV provides no confirmation message. |
| Turn off Anynet+ in settings | You want to stop HDMI-CEC behavior and your model exposes the setting. | Compatible HDMI-device control and power functions may also stop working. |
| Update or adjust the device that triggers switching | You want to keep Anynet+ features and one connected device appears to be sending the signal. | The device’s firmware or settings may not offer a fix; its manufacturer can advise on device-specific options. |
Model and remote differences to keep in mind
Anynet+ is available on most Samsung Smart TVs manufactured after 2008, but not every model has the same controls. Menu labels and remote procedures can also vary by model, software version, remote type, and region. Samsung’s Gulf support page, last updated June 30, 2026, likewise notes model variation: Samsung Gulf: The television automatically changes its source. If the steps do not match your TV, check its model-specific manual or contact Samsung Support with the model code and remote type.
