To stop a Samsung Galaxy phone from rotating, open Quick settings and tap Auto rotate. It changes to Portrait or Landscape, locking the screen in its current position. Choose the lock that matches how you want to use the phone.
Lock the screen in portrait or landscape

Swipe down from the top-right of the screen to open Quick settings. The panel may need another swipe to show all controls.

Find the orientation control. If it says Auto rotate, the phone is following how you hold it. Turn the phone to the position you want to keep before locking it.

Tap Auto rotate. The control changes to Portrait or Landscape, depending on the screen’s current position. That label means rotation is locked.

Use Portrait to keep the phone upright or Landscape to keep it sideways. To let the display follow the phone again, tap the locked control and return it to Auto rotate. Samsung notes that some apps keep the orientation specified by their developers, so the lock may not change every app screen.

Restore Auto rotate if it is missing
The orientation control may have been removed from the visible Quick settings panel. Open the panel’s edit controls and add the Auto rotate or orientation tile back. The exact route varies by device and software: Samsung’s US instructions show a pencil or Edit option, while its Gulf support page also describes an Edit or three-dot menu.

Adjust rotation for specific screens
For additional options, touch and hold the Auto rotate control in Quick settings. Depending on the Galaxy model and software, options may include the Home screen, Lock screen, or Voice call screen. These choices are not available on every device; Samsung notes that the Home screen option is unavailable on tablets.
Samsung Canada’s rotation guidance also notes that app screens can follow their own orientation design.

If the screen still rotates—or will not rotate
First check the control’s label. A highlighted Auto rotate control means automatic rotation is on; Portrait or Landscape means the phone is locked. If the label is correct but an app does not respond as expected, that app may not support the orientation you want.
