Look for an app with unusually high use, especially background use. A busy app is not automatically a problem: navigation, music playback, photo syncing, and mail fetching can run in the background by design. Compare the report with what you were doing and when the drain occurred.
Reduce the biggest sources of demand
Limit an app’s background activity
If an app is using more power in the background than you expect, reduce how often you use it or restrict its background activity using the controls available on your phone. Review its location access and notifications if those features are not needed. Apple notes that directions, music, photo syncing, and mail fetching can contribute to background activity.

Cut screen use
- Lower screen brightness or use automatic brightness if it suits your needs.
- Shorten the screen timeout so the display turns off sooner when idle.

Turn on a battery-saving mode when useful

Check battery health if the drain continues
Phone batteries lose capacity over time. If app use, display demand, signal, heat, and temporary background activity do not explain the problem, use the manufacturer’s battery-health diagnostic and follow its service advice. On iPhone, Apple says to consider service if Battery Health displays “Service.” Samsung notes that repeated charging and discharging gradually reduces battery capacity.
Battery replacement is specific to the device. Confirm the exact model and use the manufacturer’s or an authorized service provider’s guidance rather than buying a generic replacement part. The appropriate service option and availability depend on the phone and region.
