On a Pixel, Wi‑Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning are separate from the main Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth switches. You can turn either one off under Settings > Location > Location services. Google says the scans can help apps get better location information; it does not publish a battery-life figure for disabling them, so there is no verified promise that this change will add hours.
Turn off Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth scanning on a Pixel
- Open Settings and tap Location.
- Tap Location services.
- Tap Wi‑Fi scanning and switch it off.
- Return to Location services, tap Bluetooth scanning, and switch it off.
Google’s current instructions describe these controls as a way to let the phone scan for nearby Wi‑Fi access points or Bluetooth devices to help apps get location information. The source does not establish that scanning happens continuously or specify how often it occurs. Menu labels can vary by software release or language.

What these two switches change—and what they do not
Wi‑Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning are location-related scanning controls, not the main switches for Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, or Location. Turning off a scan does not itself turn off the corresponding connection radio or disable Location. Google describes Location Accuracy separately: it can use wireless signals, including Wi‑Fi and mobile networks, along with device sensors. Google warns that turning off Location Accuracy can affect the availability and accuracy of services such as Maps and finding a lost device; that warning concerns Location Accuracy, not simply disabling these two scans. Know the convenience trade-off before switching them off
Google says automatic Wi‑Fi enablement near saved networks requires both Wi‑Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning. If you turn off either setting, Wi‑Fi may no longer switch on automatically near those networks. Wi‑Fi also will not turn on automatically while Battery Saver is active. If you rely on that feature, keep the relevant scanning settings enabled. Google’s guide to connecting a Pixel to Wi‑Fi networks

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Will disabling scanning add hours of battery life?
Google’s consulted support pages do not quantify the battery savings from disabling Wi‑Fi scanning, Bluetooth scanning, or both. Treat the change as an optional adjustment to try, not a guaranteed fix or a measured “hours saved” result. If you want to assess its effect on your own phone, change one toggle at a time and observe battery usage under your usual conditions; that is a practical way to compare your experience, not a Google-tested protocol.
Standard Battery Saver already turns off Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth scanning for location data, while Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth themselves continue to work. Google’s explanation of Battery Saver on Pixel

If your Pixel battery is still draining quickly
Check which apps use the battery
Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage and review apps with high background use. This can help identify other possible sources of drain; it does not establish that scanning caused the problem. Google’s battery-drain troubleshooting guide also notes that temporary extra drain after a software update can be normal while the phone downloads and optimizes software.
Keep Adaptive Battery and app optimization enabled
Google recommends keeping Adaptive Battery and app battery optimization on. Adaptive Battery learns your usage patterns and may take a few weeks to fully optimize after setup or a factory reset. These are broader battery-management measures, not evidence that Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth scanning is responsible for unusual drain. Google’s Adaptive Battery and optimization guidance
