A voice that reads menu items or volume changes is the TV’s screen reader; a voice that describes scenes in a program is audio description. Turn off the matching accessibility feature, then check the app or connected box if the narration continues.
Identify what the voice is describing
- Menus and controls: If it reads highlighted options, announces the channel, or says when the volume changes, turn off the TV’s screen-reading feature. Samsung calls this Voice Guide; LG calls it Audio Guidance.
- Scenes in a show: If it describes actions or visual details while a program plays, look for Video Description or audio description. The narration may come from the TV, streaming app, or connected set-top box.
Turn off menu narration
Samsung Voice Guide
On Samsung TVs, try Home > Settings (or All Settings) > General (or General & Privacy) > Accessibility > Voice Guide Settings > Voice Guide > Off. Menu names vary by model and software version. Samsung says holding the remote’s volume button can open Accessibility options, which may lead to Voice Guide being enabled accidentally. On some Smart Remotes, holding the +/- (Volume) button for at least two seconds opens Accessibility Shortcuts; this shortcut is model-specific, and shortcuts may still speak even when Voice Guide is off or muted. LG Audio Guidance
On an LG TV, open the Accessibility menu and switch off Audio Guidance. LG describes opening this menu by pressing and holding the relevant remote button, but the button and menu layout depend on the remote, model, and webOS version. Consult the TV’s manual if you cannot find the setting. LG distinguishes menu narration from audio description: if the voice describes the program, use the Video Description setting instead.
Turn off narration of program scenes
LG’s Video Description menu path depends on the TV’s webOS generation. LG groups its instructions this way:

If the voice keeps playing
- Check whether it is menu speech or program description. Menu speech points to Voice Guide, Audio Guidance, or a similar screen-reader setting. Scene narration points to Video Description or audio description.
- Check the device playing the content. If switching off the TV’s Video Description setting does not stop scene narration, inspect the streaming app or connected set-top box. The television may not be generating the audio.
- Use the box’s own controls for box-supplied narration. If the narration continues through a set-top box, check its accessibility settings with that device’s remote. LG advises contacting the service provider for instructions specific to the box.
- Confirm the exact model and software generation. If the menu labels do not match, consult the manufacturer’s manual or support page for that model. Settings and shortcuts vary; the paths above cover Samsung Voice Guide and LG features, not every LED TV brand or app.
