Use the fix that matches what is appearing: on iPhone or iPad, turn on a Focus mode before AirPlay mirroring; on supported Android 14 and later sharing flows, share one app instead of the whole screen. If what you see is a Cast media-control card on your phone, that is a separate setting—not a notification being sent to the TV.
First identify what is being mirrored
“Screen mirroring” can mean showing your whole phone display on a TV, casting media from an app, or mirroring an iPhone to a Mac. The right setting depends on which one you use and where the unwanted notice appears. A private message banner on the TV is different from a Cast controller card on your Android phone.
- iPhone or iPad to a TV: use Focus to limit incoming alerts while mirroring.
- Android with Google Cast: use Cast media-control settings only if the unwanted item is the Cast controller on your phone.
- Android app sharing: where supported, share a single app to exclude system notifications from the shared display.
- iPhone to Mac: use iPhone Mirroring notification controls; this is not AirPlay to a TV.
Stop iPhone or iPad notifications appearing during AirPlay
Apple’s AirPlay screen-mirroring instructions do not document a dedicated switch that hides notification banners on the mirrored display while leaving full-screen mirroring active. A practical temporary workaround is to turn on a Focus mode, such as Do Not Disturb, and review which people and apps are allowed to notify you.
Focus is a general notification control, not an AirPlay-only filter. Depending on your Focus settings, it can silence alerts on the iPhone or iPad itself as well as prevent interruptions during the presentation. To begin mirroring, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then choose the TV. To stop, return to Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and select Stop Mirroring. When the problem is an AirPlay connection prompt
If you mean suggested or automatic AirPlay connection prompts—not private notification banners—open Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity > Automatically AirPlay and choose Never. You will then need to select an AirPlay device manually. Ask allows suggested connection notifications, while Automatic allows suggested and automatic connections. This setting does not hide ordinary notifications during mirroring. See Apple’s AirPlay guidance.
Remove Google Cast media controls from an Android phone
Google Cast can show a media-control notification on the phone; that is not the same as a personal alert appearing on the TV. To dismiss the controller for the current session, swipe its notification away. For a persistent change, open Settings > Google > Devices & sharing > Cast options and turn off Media controls for Cast devices. You can also open the notification’s settings and turn off Show remote control notifications. A temporary swipe-away may not stick: the card can return when you cast from another Cast-enabled app. Google documents these controls in its Cast media control notification instructions.
Limit other people’s control of a Cast session
If your concern is that other people on the same Wi-Fi can control the media, open the device tile in Google Home, then go to Settings > Recognition & sharing and turn off Let others control your cast media. This changes who can access media controls; it is not a filter for personal notification banners.
Share one Android app instead of the whole display
On supported Android 14 (API level 34) and later screen-sharing flows, choose app screen sharing rather than sharing the entire display. Android Developers says app sharing excludes the status bar, navigation bar, notifications, and other system UI from the shared display, including when the selected app is full screen. Only the chosen app’s contents are shared, which keeps system alerts off the TV while you continue using the phone. Availability depends on the phone and the casting or sharing flow; look for an option to share an app rather than the full screen. See Android’s media projection documentation.

If the destination is a Mac, use iPhone Mirroring controls
Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature connects an iPhone to a Mac; it is separate from AirPlay screen mirroring to a TV. Once connected, the Mac automatically receives iPhone notifications and Live Activities, even when the mirroring app is not actively in use, as long as the iPhone is turned on. To stop the mirroring session, quit the iPhone Mirroring app or unlock the iPhone. Apple’s iPhone Mirroring instructions cover the feature.
To stop notifications from a particular app appearing on the Mac, on the iPhone open Settings > Notifications, choose the app, then turn off Show on Mac. This per-app control applies to iPhone Mirroring, not to a TV receiving AirPlay. Apple documents it in the Personal Safety User Guide.
