There is no universal parental-controls switch. To change settings legitimately, first identify the device and operating-system generation, the child’s role in the family account, and whether you need a temporary exception, a change to a limit, or complete removal. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Nintendo each use different account and device-management paths.
Before changing parental controls
Use the family organizer, parent or guardian account, or other credentials authorized to manage the child’s settings. Then identify the exact platform and device: for example, an Apple device using Family Sharing, a supervised Android device, a Windows PC or Xbox in Microsoft Family Safety, or an original Nintendo Switch versus Switch 2.

Decide what outcome you need. Extending a limit for today is not the same as disabling a recurring limit, and neither necessarily removes content restrictions or supervision. Use the platform’s current support instructions for the matching device and family role; interfaces and account rules can change.

Apple: Family Sharing and Screen Time
In an Apple Family Sharing group, the family organizer or a designated parent or guardian can set up controls for children. Screen Time is used to manage restrictions. For current setup, adjustment, or removal instructions, use Apple Support and select the instructions matching the child’s iOS or iPadOS version and your role in the family group. The available guidance does not establish one complete removal sequence that applies to every Apple setup, so avoid assuming that a path for one version or role fits another.

Google: Family Link
Family Link lets a parent manage screen time on a supervised device, including daily limits and bedtime. Google says, “A parent in the family group needs to use their Google Account password to set up or change their child’s parental control settings.” Use the parent account to make authorized changes and follow Google’s Family Link guidance for the child’s account and device. The available instructions do not establish a complete current removal procedure for every supervised setup; check the current guidance before changing supervision.
Microsoft: Family Safety
Microsoft Family Safety can set app or game limits by duration and schedule. Microsoft’s guidance says limits can extend across Windows, Xbox, and Android devices connected through the Family Safety app, so a change may affect more than one device.

Set or tailor an app or game limit
- Open the Microsoft family account or Family Safety experience using the authorized organizer account.
- Select the family member, then choose the relevant platform or device.
- Open the app and game limits controls, enable limits, and set the allowed time and schedule for the app or game.
Turn off a screen-time limit
Microsoft documents turning limits off through its screen-time controls. Use the current Microsoft Support instructions for the relevant family member and platform; available controls can differ across Windows, Xbox, and Android.

Nintendo parental controls cover content and features as well as play time. Instructions differ between Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, so choose the support page for the exact console rather than assuming the same screens or flow apply.

Allow more time today
For the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo documents using the linked parental-controls app to extend that day’s play time or turn off that day’s play-time limit. This is a temporary change to the daily allowance, not the same as removing parental controls. Follow Nintendo’s instructions for extending or turning off the daily limit.
Remove controls
Nintendo’s support instructions say removing controls from the original Switch requires unlinking the parental-controls app from the console. Consult Nintendo’s removal instructions and confirm they match your console. For Switch 2, use Nintendo’s separate Switch 2 support instructions.

What parental controls can and cannot cover
Controls are not guaranteed to block every route to content. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner gives accessing a service through its website, rather than its restricted app, as an example of a possible gap. That illustrates a limitation, not a universal bypass method: coverage depends on the particular device, service, and settings. Talk with children about the purpose and limits of the rules, and agree on expectations alongside technical controls. See the eSafety Commissioner’s overview of parental controls.
