If music starts as soon as your iPhone connects to a car or Bluetooth speaker, first check which app and device is starting playback: Apple does not document a universal iPhone switch that disables every Bluetooth-connected device’s auto-start behavior. If instead Apple Music adds songs after your current queue ends, turn off AutoPlay from the Playing Next screen.
First, identify when playback begins

The distinction matters: Apple Music AutoPlay refers to similar songs continuing after a queue. It is not a general setting for audio that starts as Bluetooth connects.

Turn off AutoPlay in Apple Music
- Open the Music app and display the currently playing song.
- Tap Playing Next to view the queue.
- Tap the AutoPlay control at the top of the queue. Its active appearance changes when AutoPlay is enabled.
Apple says that turning off AutoPlay on one device also turns it off on other devices using the same Apple Account. See Apple’s instructions for keeping music going.

If music starts at the moment Bluetooth connects
Check the active audio route and app before changing settings. In a car, audio might be coming through Bluetooth, USB, CarPlay, or an app built into the vehicle; those routes can have different controls. Apple describes these ways to listen in a car.

- Note which app is playing when the sound starts, including whether it is the app you last used.

- Check the car stereo’s audio or startup settings and the vehicle manual for a model-specific option to resume or start playback on connection. Available controls vary by vehicle; the Apple guidance cited here does not establish a universal iPhone toggle for this behavior.
Why Driving Focus is not the fix
Driving Focus filters notifications and can be configured to activate when the iPhone connects to car Bluetooth or CarPlay. Apple does not document it as a music playback control, so enabling or changing it is not a supported way to stop music from starting. Apple’s guide to setting up Driving Focus
