CxUIUSvc is identified in secondary troubleshooting coverage as part of Conexant SmartAudio II / Synaptics HD audio-driver software; it is not identified as a built-in Windows service in Microsoft’s per-user-services reference. Updating or reinstalling an audio driver may help, but neither is a proven fix for every case.
What is the CxUIUSvc service?
CxUIUSvc is associated with Conexant SmartAudio II and Synaptics HD audio-driver software, according to WindowsReport’s service troubleshooting coverage. That is a third-party identification, not a Microsoft description of a Windows component.

Microsoft’s reference for per-user services in Windows explains that Windows can create user-specific service instances from templates, but it does not list CxUIUSvc. That page is not a complete inventory of third-party services, so its omission does not establish that the service is malicious or that it cannot be installed on Windows 11.

How to check whether CxUIUSvc is causing high CPU or memory use
- Open Task Manager. Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select Processes, and sort by the CPU column. Check whether the CxUIUSvc entry itself is using CPU. You can also sort by Memory to see whether it is the process using RAM. There is no established normal usage range for this service, so judge whether use is persistent and affecting the PC rather than relying on an unsupported threshold. - Inspect the process behind the entry. If Task Manager shows a shared service-host process rather than a clearly named CxUIUSvc process, do not assume every service in that host is responsible. Identify the specific service first. Resource Monitor can provide more CPU detail; Process Explorer can show process and thread information.
- Use diagnostic tools as inspection aids, not as a Windows 11 repair recipe. Microsoft’s high-CPU guidance describes Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Process Explorer, and explains isolating services in a shared
svchostprocess where applicable. That article is scoped to Windows Server, so its workflow should not be treated as an official Windows 11 fix for CxUIUSvc. See Microsoft’s high-CPU troubleshooting guidance.
How to troubleshoot the audio driver
Check whether the issue followed a driver change
Consider whether sustained resource use began after an audio-driver update, installation, or other system change. The timing can help guide the next check, but it does not prove the driver is the cause.

Use the support page for the exact PC model
Find the computer maker’s support page for your specific model and Windows version, then check whether an audio-driver update is available. OEM packages are intended for a particular hardware configuration; avoid substituting a driver intended for a different model. The secondary WindowsReport guide suggests updating or reinstalling the audio driver, but it does not report controlled tests showing either step works in every case. Do not treat third-party driver-updater recommendations as an official Microsoft or Synaptics endorsement.
Reinstall only when there is a reason to do so
If the OEM recommends reinstalling the audio package, follow its instructions and use the package for your model. Before changing the driver, note the installed version and ensure you can restore the OEM-supported version if audio stops working or the problem worsens. A reinstall is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed resolution.

Should you disable CxUIUSvc?
Do not make permanent disabling the first response to high resource use. Because the service is associated with audio-driver software, disabling it may affect audio functionality; the precise consequences for a particular PC are not established by the cited sources. Microsoft warns generally that disabling services can break dependent applications, advises careful testing of service-template changes, and cautions against direct registry edits unless there is no other alternative. Those are general Windows cautions, not a documented dependency list for CxUIUSvc.
If you choose to disable or otherwise change a service setting as a temporary diagnostic, record the original setting first, make one change at a time, and check whether audio functions normally. Restore the original setting if there is no improvement or audio is affected. Avoid registry edits as a shortcut.

What the Synaptics security advisory says
Synaptics’ security advisory for CVE-2024-9157 concerns audio-driver packages that include CxUIUSvc64.exe or CxUIUSvc32.exe. Synaptics says the vulnerability affects only products that have reached end of life and are no longer supported. The advisory describes a named pipe without a restrictive security descriptor that could allow a crafted message to cause a DLL to load into an elevated process.
Synaptics reports CVSS scores of 7.8 (CVSS 3.1, High) and 8.6 (CVSS 4.0, High) for this vulnerability. These scores describe the advisory’s vulnerability rating; they are not measures of how often it occurs, whether your installation is affected, or the service’s performance. Check the exact driver package and its support status with the computer maker or software vendor rather than assuming every CxUIUSvc installation is vulnerable.
