To stop a Samsung oven’s self-cleaning cycle, use the cancel or off control specified in the manual for your exact model. Samsung oven controls vary, so there is no universal button sequence. Keep the door shut while it is locked; the oven must cool before the lock releases.
Cancel the cycle using your model’s control
- Find the full model number and open its Samsung user manual. Samsung says control layouts and operation vary across ovens, including knob and touchscreen models. See Samsung’s oven cleaning guidance for its direction to consult the model manual.
- Use the manual’s cancel or off control for an active self-clean cycle. For example, Samsung South Africa instructs users of the gas-range model family covered by its page to press CANCEL. That example is not a universal instruction for every Samsung oven: Samsung South Africa’s gas-range instructions.
- Wait for the oven to cool and the lock to release. Samsung US says the door remains locked until the cycle is canceled and the temperature falls below 350°F. Do not pull or pry the door open: Samsung warns that forcing it can damage the automatic door-locking system.
If the controls do not respond
A hot oven, Control Lock, or another active function can prevent the panel from accepting input. Check the manual and Samsung’s control-panel troubleshooting guidance before trying another control sequence.

For a panel that remains unresponsive, Samsung suggests switching the oven’s circuit breaker off for 30 seconds and restoring power. This is a troubleshooting step for an unresponsive panel, not a substitute for the model-specific cancellation procedure. If the panel still will not respond, Samsung recommends requesting service.

If self-cleaning appears to malfunction
Stop using the oven, turn it off, disconnect its power supply, and contact a qualified service technician, as Samsung directs in its self-cleaning guidance. Do not attempt to defeat or manually force the door lock.

Self Clean is not Steam Clean
On supported models, Self Clean uses high heat to address heavier residue, while Steam Clean uses lower temperatures for lighter soil. They are different modes; consult your oven’s manual for the controls and instructions that apply to your model. Samsung describes the distinction in its wall-oven FAQs.
