STH Q4 2024 Letter from the Editor Re-aligning: ServeTheHome’s 2025 Plans

ServeTheHome’s Q4 2024 editor letter details the strain of large H200, Olympics and xAI projects, reports 800,000 YouTube and 10,000 STH Labs subscribers, and sets out hiring and Axautik Group plans for 2025.

Patrick Kennedy’s December 29, 2024 letter describes ServeTheHome (STH) reorganizing around a larger media operation: its main website, forums, two YouTube-oriented formats, newsletter, and the Axautik Group analyst business. Kennedy says unusually large projects had consumed five to ten times the normal production effort, making staffing and prioritization necessary. The audience figures and 2025 plans below are what he reported at the time, not verified later results.

What Kennedy said STH was realigning

In his Q4 2024 letter, Kennedy presents STH as more than a single hardware-review site. The operation had several distinct outlets and a separate analyst-oriented business:

STH activity Role described in the letter
Main STH website Home for primary articles and reviews.
STH Forums Discussion community; Kennedy says he preferred keeping it primarily a discussion space despite advertising offers.
STH YouTube Main video channel.
STH Labs Short-video channel that remained much smaller than the main channel.
Free weekly newsletter Selected coverage delivered by email on weekends.
Axautik Group Consultations, reports and paid Substack analysis aimed at financial-community audiences.

The stated objective was to support bigger productions and additional formats without allowing routine reviews on the main site to fall behind.

The capacity problem: ambitious projects versus regular coverage

Kennedy says Olympic and xAI Colossus videos, along with reviews of large H200 systems such as the Aivres KR6288 NVIDIA HGX H200 and ASRock Rack 6U8X-EGS2 H200, required five to ten times the average article or video time. That is his own estimate of workload, not an independently measured industry statistic.

He describes the resulting pressure in unusually direct terms: “Frankly, I have become the bottleneck, and I know it.” The bottleneck was not simply editing speed. It involved the competing demands of maintaining a daily publishing cadence, meeting his personal quality standards, pursuing complex projects and trying to reach what he calls a challenging 100,000 average views per piece across main-site and YouTube work. The letter frames these numbers as expectations and editorial pressure, not as audited performance averages.

Audience milestones reported for Q4 2024

Kennedy reports that the main STH YouTube channel reached 800,000 subscribers during the quarter. He says the channel planned to make its next subscriber-milestone feature at one million, with his December 2024 best guess placing that milestone in the second half of 2025 if growth did not slow too much.

He also reports that STH Labs passed 10,000 subscribers in Q4 2024. The letter says the short-video channel needed more frequent and higher-volume posting to develop further. Both subscriber counts are publication-reported figures tied to that December 2024 account; the letter does not establish their later totals.

Hiring and the search for a second-in-command

Scaling output was presented as an organizational requirement, not just a matter of working longer hours. Kennedy says he wanted to find someone who could become an STH “#2” over time and mentions studio-based positions as well as part-time contributors.

  • He is open to people developing a subject over a longer period through part-time work.
  • He cautions that finding contributors who consistently follow through has been difficult.

The hiring discussion helps explain the “realigning” theme: STH needed delegated production and editorial capacity so one person was not the limiting step for every format.

What Axautik Group was meant to do

Kennedy positions Axautik Group as the “Analyst” component of an Analyst-Influencer-Other model. Its intended audience is the financial community, and its work emphasizes the business implications of technology rather than serving as a replacement for STH’s public editorial coverage.

The group’s activities include consultations, reports and a paid Substack. Kennedy says a research short on PCIe Gen6 and CXL retimers performed better than expected, and that the paid Substack, started in August, was growing well and expected to become an important 2025 revenue source. He describes this as packaging knowledge from STH coverage and consulting into paid formats, while stating explicitly: “This is not a replacement for STH in any way.”

Plans Kennedy stated for 2025

  • Continue producing larger projects while raising the average level of main-site coverage.
  • Create more content for new audiences and formats.
  • Build a new video set, adjust the standing set and film more projects outside the studio in Q1 2025.
  • Increase STH Labs’ posting frequency and volume.
  • Expand the team, potentially including a long-term second-in-command.

Kennedy summarized the ambition this way: “My big hope is that in 2025 we can continue to bring bigger pieces to the STH community, while at the same time elevating our average on the main site, and also creating more content for the new audiences and formats.” He closed with, “The good news, is, we are pushing very hard in 2025.” These are plans and expectations recorded on December 29, 2024, rather than evidence that each change was completed.

How to read the letter today

The document is best understood as a dated operational snapshot. It records a publication balancing resource-intensive enterprise-hardware projects with dependable everyday reviews, while adding video channels, a newsletter and a separate analyst business. Its metrics are self-reported, its workload comparisons are Kennedy’s estimates, and its one-million-subscriber target is a forecast. The letter does not provide later subscriber counts, confirm that the proposed hires were made or establish the current availability or pricing of Axautik services.
