Stellar’s Adapter upgrade, Protocol 28, went live on mainnet on September 16, 2026. Its three changes address different parts of the network: CAP-83 adjusts consensus behavior under load, while CAP-85 and CAP-86 add opt-in tools for managing Soroban smart-contract upgrades and evolving contract data. The latter features require developers to use updated SDKs and rebuild their contracts; they do not change every existing contract automatically.
What is Adapter, and what changed?
Soroban is Stellar’s smart-contract platform. Adapter is the name of the Protocol 28 upgrade, whose changes are described in three Stellar network proposals, or CAPs. Two focus on the contract-development lifecycle; the third concerns consensus. Stellar Development Foundation’s overview of Adapter describes the changes and their intended uses.

CAP-83: consensus behavior under load
CAP-83 changes how validators handle transaction sets during consensus. Validators can begin voting before a full transaction set has arrived and can explicitly discard a late or invalid set. The goal is to help consensus proceed more quickly under load. That design goal is not, by itself, evidence of a measured increase in throughput.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →CAP-85: shared executables for coordinated upgrades
CAP-85 lets contracts refer to a shared, externally managed executable. A contract team can update that shared reference so the contracts using it switch together, rather than managing separate executable updates that could leave a large deployment partly upgraded. SDF compares the pattern with a beacon proxy on other chains.

- SECURE - The SecuX hardware wallet has a complete suite of security features in place, from protected production chain, to tamper resistant packaging, right down to its military grade, CC EAL 5+ certified secure element for keeping your assets safe and unassailable - Rugged aluminum case ensures years of protection
- COMPATIBLE - Connect via USB or Bluetooth to your Windows, Mac or Linux computer(through Chrome browser), iOS devices (iPhone, iPad), and Android devices (Android 8.1 or later) with dedicated SecuX mobile app - Supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Ripple, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Digibyte, Dash, Binance, Dogecoin, GRS, Stellar Lumens, and over 1,000 ERC-20 tokens
- CONVENIENT - Simple, streamlined interface ensures you can use it easily, avoid mistakes and keep your assets safe - Simple firmware update process is more streamlined than the competitors to ensure smooth updates, maximizing security and usability - USB-C equipped for easy charging and connection to laptops, etc.
- TOUCH SCREEN - The SecuX hardware wallet is easy to interact with thanks to its 2.8” full color touch screen including on-screen keyboard - On-screen verification of addresses gives you protection from malware that may attempt to redirect your funds
- BLUETOOTH - Connect to your phone or other Bluetooth devices to send and receive coins and tokens - Your keys never leave your device, and Bluetooth is only used for sending signed transactions to the blockchain
This is a mechanism for developers to manage, not an automatic network-wide upgrade. Only contracts built to use the shared reference are affected when their team updates it.
CAP-86: sparse host functions for evolving data
CAP-86 adds sparse host functions that handle missing or additional fields more gracefully than the earlier map-conversion functions. They are intended to help developers change contract data structures and manage migrations as schemas evolve. The new functions are available through SDK updates, and a development team adopts them by rebuilding its contracts.

Adding these functions does not automatically migrate stored data for deployed contracts. SDF’s guide says the additions do not create a backward incompatibility simply by being introduced; developers still need to choose and implement an appropriate migration for their contracts.

- Product Dimensions: Metal D Ring 1" (25.4mm) inside width, 2.5mm THICK, 20.1mm inside height. Great for making fasteners for 1" purse straps.
- Sufficient quantity: Each pack contains 100 gun black 1" (25.4mm) metal D-rings. The quantity is very sufficient to meet your different usage scenarios and is suitable as a gift for family and friends.
- Wide range of uses: 1-inch D-rings are used for hardware in purse making, aprons (making & adjusting), handlebags, leather straps, belts, webbing, shoulder straps, pet collars, harnesses.
- Sturdy and durable: metal D-ring is made of high-quality metal that has been polished and forged many times. The surface is multi-layer electroplated, which is corrosion-resistant and not easy to fade.
- After-sales service: Please check the product dimensions when purchasing (please refer to Figure 2) to prevent purchasing errors. You can contact us with any problems you encounter and we will handle them for you in time.
- Validators and infrastructure operators: follow the release, upgrade, and synchronization requirements in the guide for their network role.
- Soroban contract teams: update SDKs and rebuild contracts to use CAP-85 or CAP-86 features. Using either feature is a developer choice, not an automatic consequence of the network upgrade.
- Contract users: the protocol changes alone do not mean every contract or application has adopted the new capabilities. Adoption depends on the teams maintaining those contracts.
How Adapter fits into Stellar’s Soroban timeline
Soroban smart-contract functionality first reached Stellar mainnet with Protocol 20. Validators voted to upgrade the network on February 20, 2024, according to the Protocol 20 upgrade guide. Stellar introduced that functionality in phases so network participants could observe performance, security, and stability as Soroban capacity increased; that was historical rollout context, not a description of Protocol 28’s status.
Protocol 23, activated in 2025, had already introduced parallel processing for smart-contract transactions and changes to Soroban state handling and caching. Those are Protocol 23 features, not part of Adapter. The Protocol 23 announcement provides the earlier upgrade’s details.

- LIMITED TO 2,000 UNITS WORLDWIDE: The Founder's Edition is the first and only production run of the X0 Founder's Edition at this scale. Each set ships with a printed note signed by Cypherock's founders. Once these are gone, this edition is not made again
- YOUR KEY IS SPLIT ACROSS 4 CARDS, NOT COPIED: Your private key is generated inside the card's secure element and cryptographically split using Shamir's Secret Sharing across 4 cards and your phone. No single card holds a usable key, so a card that is lost or stolen on its own gives an attacker nothing. This is threshold security, not four copies of the same key
- TAP TO SIGN, KEY NEVER LEAVES THE CHIP: Every transaction is signed inside the card's EAL6+ certified secure element, the same class of chip used in banking cards and passports. Your phone holds one encrypted fragment and runs the app. It never assembles or stores your private key. No cable, no battery, no computer
- LOSE UP TO 3 CARDS AND STILL RECOVER: Any 2 cards restore your full wallet on any phone. Keep them in separate places, at home, at work, with family. There is no single point of failure. You stay in full control of your recovery phrase and can choose to view it in the app whenever you want, and BIP-39 compatibility means your wallet stays portable to other wallets if you ever move it
- 22,900+ COINS AND TOKENS ACROSS 15 NETWORKS: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Tron, Litecoin, Dogecoin and every major EVM chain including Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism and Base, with full ERC-20 and TRC-20 support. Please note Solana, Stellar, Near, Starknet, Internet Computer, Sia and Canton are not supported. Free X0 app on iOS and Android
The Protocol 28 guide scheduled the mainnet vote for September 16, 2026. A later U.Today report dated September 30, 2026 says Adapter went live that day. The guide was published ahead of the vote, so the later report is the confirmation of the completed mainnet activation.

What Adapter does—and does not—establish
Adapter gives contract teams more control over executable upgrades and data-structure changes, while CAP-83 changes validator behavior around transaction sets. The published upgrade materials explain the design and intended benefits, but do not establish quantified post-upgrade changes in throughput, transaction cost, or user adoption. Those outcomes should not be inferred from the proposals alone.
