Lower the difficulty for a broad reduction
PlayStation describes two difficulty settings, and Shift Up says players can adjust difficulty during play. If you are repeatedly losing health, missing counters, or simply not enjoying the pressure, lowering the difficulty is the broadest option. The official sources do not give a specific menu route, so look in the game’s settings rather than relying on an unverified button-by-button path. Use Story Mode Action Assist to read boss timing
Action Assist is useful when the main problem is recognizing an attack and responding in time. Shift Up recommends it for players new to action games. Its description says movement slows at crucial moments, including while you work out a boss’s pattern for a counterattack, and parry and dodge timing appears in a certain UI. The interview does not identify that UI in this explanation, so do not assume a particular display or that every attack becomes safe. Read the developer interview on PlayStation.Blog.

PlayStation characterizes combat around deliberate attacks, defense, evasion, and learning enemy patterns. Shift Up likewise advises watching enemy movement and responding to the flow of combat. PlayStation and Shift Up support that approach.
Match the assist to the part you are failing
For QTEs, simplify the prompts
If you can handle the boss’s regular attacks but lose during a timed prompt sequence, enable Simplified Quick Time Events. PlayStation lists this as an accessibility feature for reducing the challenge of time-limited prompts. It should not be treated as a general fix for parrying, dodging, or reading attack patterns. For controls, practice outside the boss fight
The official game page lists a consequence-free practice environment. Use it to become familiar with how the controls work before returning to a difficult encounter; the page does not say that practice mode contains a specific boss or reproduces its moves. PlayStation’s game page.

Exospines and Gear have different effects, and Shift Up describes options that can support speed-focused, aggressive, or cautious approaches. If you prefer to wait for openings, choose equipment that fits a cautious style; if you would rather press the attack, look for effects suited to aggression. Use Boss Challenge for eligible rematches, not to skip a first fight
Shift Up announced Boss Challenge in May 2024 as a mode featuring 19 bosses from the base game. Access to a boss requires battle data from bosses already defeated, so it is useful for replay and practice after qualifying defeats rather than a way around an unseen first encounter. You can use existing gear or select presets, including a maximum preset with boosted skills and stats. The May 2024 announcement.
The same announcement said Hard difficulty in Boss Challenge was available after seeing the ending at that time. That unlock detail is historical: official Steam patch notes dated July 2, 2025, for version 1.2.0 say Hard Mode became available from the start of the game and was also unlocked for Boss Challenge. Where to find the options
Look through the game’s settings for difficulty and assist options. The official sources confirm the features but do not provide a complete current list of individual assist toggles or an exact settings-menu path. Avoid following button-by-button directions unless they match your version and platform.
