To improve in Stellar Blade’s Boss Challenge, learn one attack string at a time: recognize its cue, choose the defense that fits, and attack only after the sequence ends. Then compare the game’s battle data across attempts made with the same difficulty and preset. What Boss Challenge measures—and what it does not reveal
Boss Challenge pits Eve against 19 bosses from the base game. You must have defeated a boss in the main story to challenge it in this mode. You can bring your own gear or choose a preset: the minimum preset is intentionally understated, while the maximum boosts skills and stats. These are challenge conditions, not published rank tiers.

Use a repeatable loop to learn a boss
- Watch for one attack string. On an attempt, concentrate on how a particular sequence starts and how you can tell it has ended. Treat each string as its own learning target rather than trying to memorize the entire fight at once.
- Test the defense that suits the move. PlayStation’s combat guide recommends studying enemy patterns and weaknesses; it notes that some enemies are better handled with blocks and parries, while others call for dodging. Try a response against the specific string instead of retreating automatically or forcing the same defense on every move. PlayStation’s combat guide
- Confirm the sequence is over before punishing. Once you can handle the string reliably, look for the opening that follows it. Use a suitable combo, then stop when the boss begins another sequence. PlayStation recommends adapting combos to the enemy, punishing attacks when openings appear, and building stagger; aggression is useful when it follows a safe opening, not as a reason to attack through an active string.
- Change one variable on the next retry. Note what response worked and what caused a hit. Adjust one thing—such as your defense, combo, or gear—at a time so you can tell what changed the result.
- Review the battle data. Compare the reported time, perfect parries and dodges, and consumable use with your previous attempt. Look for changes alongside what you learned in the fight; do not assume the game rewards a particular statistic unless it makes that rule clear.
Compare attempts on equal terms
For a useful personal comparison, keep difficulty and preset the same. Switching from the minimum preset to the maximum or to your own gear changes the challenge conditions, so a difference between those runs does not isolate whether your play improved. The official announcement does not say how preset choice affects rank calculations.
If you want to test a different approach, change one factor at a time: defensive response, combo, or gear. Use the displayed battle data to track how your attempts differ, but treat it as a record of performance—not proof that a faster clear or more perfect defenses necessarily produce a higher rank.

Choose a preset that matches your goal
- Minimum preset: Choose it if you want the intentionally understated setup to define your challenge. It is not identified as a rank tier.
- Maximum preset: Choose it to try the mode with boosted skills and stats. The announcement does not establish that this preset improves or worsens rank.
- Your own gear: Use your build when you want to practice with the setup you prefer. For a fair comparison with another attempt, keep that setup—and the difficulty—consistent.
PlayStation’s combat guide also mentions consequence-free practice and adjustable difficulty or assists, but it does not establish that every such option is available inside Boss Challenge. Check the current game and mode menus before relying on a particular practice or assist feature.
Access and reward details
Boss Challenge is part of the PS5 game Stellar Blade. Its progression requirement is boss-specific: you need battle data from bosses you have already defeated in the story before challenging them here.
