SteelSeries rates each battery for up to 16 hours at 8KHz or 60 hours at 1KHz; the system can keep the mouse running while one battery charges and the other is in use. The choice between the models is primarily about shape: Sensei is symmetrical, while Rival is ergonomic.
What are the Sensei Pro and Rival Pro?
Announced on September 29, 2026, the family includes four models: Sensei Pro and Sensei Pro Mini, plus Rival Pro and Rival Pro Mini. Both are wireless gaming mice with SteelSeries’ UWB connection and 8,000Hz maximum polling claim. The “X” in the assignment title is best read as joining the two official product names: SteelSeries calls them the Sensei Pro and Rival Pro series.

The main distinction is the shell. SteelSeries describes Sensei as symmetrical and Rival as ergonomic. Each is available in black or white, and in full-size or Mini versions. The official Sensei Pro product page says full-size suits palm and relaxed-claw grips, while Mini is aimed at fingertip and aggressive-claw grips. Treat that as manufacturer guidance rather than a guarantee: hand size, grip habits and comfort are personal.

| Model | Shape | Size options | Manufacturer black-version weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sensei Pro | Symmetrical | Full-size and Mini | 53g full-size; 49g Mini |
| Rival Pro | Ergonomic | Full-size and Mini | Not stated on the cited black Sensei product page for Rival Pro |
The weights shown are for the black Sensei configurations listed by SteelSeries; its white product page reports 54g for full-size and 50g for Mini. Do not assume a color variant has exactly the same quoted weight. The SlashGear review reports both black full-size mice at about 1.86 ounces, and both Mini versions at about 1.73 ounces; those are reviewer-reported figures, not the manufacturer’s listed weights.

In that review, Sarah Chaney used a black full-size Rival Pro and Sensei Pro for about a week. She describes lightweight plastic shells, side grip stickers, two buttons on the left side, and white PTFE feet preinstalled with blue spare feet included. She also notes that the matte finish showed finger oils and that the mice do not have customizable RGB lighting. These are observations from that review, not laboratory material tests or a guarantee that every user will have the same experience.
What does 8KHz polling mean in practice?
Polling is how often a mouse reports its position to the computer. At 1,000Hz, the nominal reporting interval is 1 millisecond; at 8,000Hz, it is 0.125 milliseconds. SteelSeries advertises 8,000Hz polling—up to eight times the reports per second of a 1,000Hz mouse—and also describes “9K” over-polling, sending an extra packet for every eight. These are manufacturer specifications and descriptions, not proof that every player or game will feel a meaningful difference.

- Year-long battery life for over 400 plus hours of uninterrupted use with revolutionary power-efficient technology
- Optimized for ultra-low latency wired-like performance with the flexibility of two types of connectivity: 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth
- Multi-purpose functionality perfect for switching between gaming, school, work, travel, limited USB space, and more
- TrueMove Air Optical Gaming Sensor - True 1-to-1 Tracking 18,000 CPI, 400 IPS, 40G
- Smart and durable construction includes dongle compartment and 60 million click mechanical switches (6X the standard)
SteelSeries says its UWB connection operates in the 6.4–9.056GHz spectrum and offers roughly 20 times the bandwidth, with less susceptibility to congestion than traditional 2.4GHz wireless. Those are the company’s claims about its implementation; they should not be treated as independent measurements of performance in every room or setup.
The SlashGear review says the mouse connects through a receiver/base station with a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, and reports adjustable polling and sensor report settings up to 8,000Hz. It cautions that consoles may not support every feature. The review also mentions a separately sold travel dongle for a second system, but compatibility and current availability should be checked for the particular device and region.

Does 8K polling affect game performance?
It can. Tom’s Guide reports frame-rate drops in some games during its 8K testing, specifically Valorant, Apex Legends, Fortnite and Rust. That is an observation from the publication’s review, not a result that establishes how every PC or game will behave. The review also says tracking and click report rates can be adjusted independently, which may help a user tune settings rather than run every feature at its maximum.
If you notice worse frame rates or other instability after selecting 8K, try a lower polling rate and compare the same game and settings. The highest setting is an option, not a requirement for using the mouse. Whether the extra reports are worthwhile depends on your system, games and preference.

How long does the battery last—and what is “Infinite Power”?
“Infinite Power” is SteelSeries’ name for a two-battery swap-and-charge arrangement. One rechargeable battery powers the mouse while the second charges in the base station; swapping them is what can keep the mouse available without waiting for the active battery to recharge. It does not mean either battery lasts indefinitely.

| Polling setting | SteelSeries rating per battery | SteelSeries rating across two batteries |
|---|---|---|
| 1KHz | Up to 60 hours | Up to 120 hours |
| 8KHz | Up to 16 hours | Up to 32 hours |
These are SteelSeries’ “up to” ratings, with the pair total depending on alternating between the batteries and charging the spare. Tom’s Guide reports around 16 hours per battery at 8KHz and up to 60 hours at 1KHz, broadly consistent with the manufacturer’s per-battery figures; that is review-reported runtime, not a controlled lab measurement. SlashGear says the base battery charged faster than the reviewer used up the active one during a few hours of play, an anecdotal observation rather than a battery test.

Who is this mouse family for?
The Sensei Pro or Rival Pro is most relevant if you want to choose between symmetrical and ergonomic shells, prefer a lightweight design, and value swapping a battery instead of pausing to charge. The Mini versions provide a smaller option, but the manufacturer’s grip guidance is only a starting point—try to judge the actual shape and size in hand where possible.
- Consider Sensei Pro if you want a symmetrical shell; compare full-size and Mini against your hand and grip.
- Consider Rival Pro if an ergonomic profile better matches your preferred hand position.
- Look closely at the battery routine if you often play long sessions away from a charging break; the benefit depends on keeping the spare charged and swapping it when needed.
- Do not buy on 8K alone if your games or PC perform worse at the maximum setting, or if you do not expect to use it.
These are premium, fit-sensitive peripherals. Before buying, check the exact size and color, regional availability and current price, along with whether the two-battery workflow and software settings suit your setup. The cited reviews and product information do not establish current regional pricing or stock.
Verdict
The Sensei Pro and Rival Pro offer a distinctive combination of high-polling wireless and a genuinely useful battery-swap concept, but neither feature removes the need to consider fit and trade-offs. Choose between them first by shell shape and size. Treat 8KHz as an adjustable capability rather than a must-use setting, especially given Tom’s Guide’s reported frame-rate drops in some games and the 16-hour per-battery rating at that polling rate.
