Choose the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless variant for the console you actually own. The Xbox version is the only model with a dedicated Xbox connection; the other USB connection is designed for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Switch and Mac. The non-Xbox version is therefore the practical choice for most PC, PlayStation and Switch setups, while Xbox owners who want native console-port support should buy the Xbox variant.
Both versions use a transmitter, dual wireless connectivity, active noise cancelling and a two-battery Infinity Power System. One battery can be used while the other charges, so the headset is designed around swapping packs rather than waiting for a built-in battery to recharge. This guide explains the port differences, device support, battery workflow, Bluetooth mixing, software requirements and the checks to make before ordering.

The short buying decision
The model name is similar across the range, but the console connection is not interchangeable. SteelSeries states that every model has two direct USB system connections. On the Xbox model, one of those is a dedicated Xbox port. On the non-Xbox model, the connections are intended for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Switch and Mac. If an Xbox is part of your setup, select the Xbox edition rather than assuming the standard edition will provide the same console connection.

Both editions are premium wireless gaming headsets released in 2022. The model has since been replaced in SteelSeries’ lineup by the Arctis Nova Pro Omni, but the Nova Pro Wireless remains a distinct product with its own transmitter, ports and compatibility rules. Do not treat information about the newer model as proof that the older model has different hardware.

Compatibility by platform
Xbox
Xbox is the platform that determines the variant. SteelSeries support identifies the Xbox edition as the only Nova Pro Wireless model that can connect through the dedicated Xbox port. The flexible connection on that edition can still serve a PC, PlayStation 4 or 5, Switch or Mac, but an owner who needs native Xbox-port support should not choose the non-Xbox configuration.
This matters most when the headset will remain connected to more than one system. A two-system desk can use the Xbox port for the console and the second connection for another supported device, subject to the way you route and select audio. If Xbox is not part of the setup, the dedicated port provides no practical benefit.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
The official product information lists PS5, PS5 Pro, PS4 and PS4 Pro support. Connect the wireless transmitter to the console using the supported USB connection, then select the headset as the console’s audio device if it is not chosen automatically. The non-Xbox model is the straightforward purchase for a PlayStation-only system; the Xbox edition can also be used through its flexible port.
PC
PC is supported by both configurations through USB. Windows 10 or newer is required for ChatMix through SteelSeries GG and Sonar. The headset can still provide wireless audio without that software feature, but ChatMix and Sonar depend on a compatible Windows installation and correctly configured software.

Switch and handheld systems
SteelSeries lists handheld and Switch support. The exact connection method depends on the hardware and dock arrangement, so check whether your particular setup exposes a suitable USB connection. The non-Xbox configuration is generally the sensible choice when Switch or handheld gaming is the main use, because no Xbox-specific port is needed.
Mac
Mac USB support is listed for the headset. The Xbox edition can use its flexible USB connection with a Mac; the non-Xbox edition is also compatible. Windows-only ChatMix requirements do not automatically transfer to macOS, so do not assume every GG/Sonar feature has the same operating-system support.
Mobile devices
The headset supports Bluetooth for mobile audio. This is useful for calls, music, notifications or a second audio source while the transmitter handles game audio. Pair the headset with the phone in the phone’s Bluetooth settings, then use the headset’s controls to manage the active wireless sources.

The two direct USB system connections are more than a specification: they determine how easily the headset moves between systems. A player with a PC and PlayStation can leave both connected to the transmitter and select the desired source without repeatedly moving one cable. An Xbox owner can use the dedicated Xbox connection for the console and the second connection for a computer or another supported device.

Before buying, list every system that must stay connected at the same time. If you have only one system, the port distinction is mostly about choosing the correct console edition. If you have two systems, count the physical connections and decide whether changing a USB lead is acceptable. The headset does not turn every combination into a universal one: the Xbox-specific connection remains the deciding factor for Xbox users.
Infinity Power System: how the dual batteries work
The Arctis Nova Pro Wireless uses two removable battery packs rather than relying on one permanently installed cell. While one pack powers the headset, the other charges in the system. SteelSeries describes the changeover as taking only a few seconds, allowing you to keep a charged pack ready instead of stopping for a conventional recharge cycle.
The official guide lists a “Second Battery” in the package contents. Because regional or revised SKU contents can change, confirm the exact box contents for the model and region you are ordering. A listing that omits the second pack would remove the main convenience of the Infinity Power System, so this check is worthwhile before purchase.
Battery-swap routine
- Keep the spare battery charging in the headset’s charging system while the other pack is in use.
- When the active battery is low, pause anything that could be interrupted and remove the depleted pack according to the headset’s battery-compartment design.
- Insert the charged pack in the same orientation and confirm that the headset powers or reconnects normally.
- Place the depleted pack into the charging position so the next swap is ready.
The advantage is predictable availability rather than a larger single-charge claim. You can maintain a rotation: one pack in the headset, one charging, and swap when needed. The system is especially useful for long sessions, shared gaming spaces and users who do not want to leave a headset tethered to a charging cable.

What to check if the second battery is missing
- Read the complete package-contents list for the exact regional SKU, not just a retailer’s abbreviated bullet points.
- Confirm that the listing is for the Nova Pro Wireless model and the correct platform variant.
- Check whether a battery is installed in the headset and whether the listed second battery is supplied separately.
- If the contents do not match the official guide, resolve that with the retailer before opening or relying on the product.
Wireless audio and Bluetooth at the same time
The feature set includes dual wireless connectivity: the transmitter provides the gaming connection while Bluetooth handles a compatible phone or other mobile source. This arrangement is useful when you want game audio in one ear-level mix and phone audio for a call, music or notifications without removing the headset.
Use cases include taking a call while waiting in a multiplayer lobby, listening to a phone playlist during a long game or receiving mobile notifications without routing the phone through the console. The practical value depends on how often you need both sources; if you never use a phone during play, dual wireless may not justify choosing this model over a simpler headset.
Mixing expectations
Bluetooth and the transmitter are separate wireless paths, so pairing a phone does not replace the console or PC connection. You still need the transmitter connected to the gaming system and Bluetooth paired to the phone. Source balance and mute behavior are controlled through the headset and transmitter controls; test the levels before a call or broadcast rather than assuming both sources will be equally loud.

Active noise cancelling and software features
Active noise cancelling
Active noise cancelling is part of the documented feature set. It can reduce steady environmental sounds such as fans or air conditioning, which may make game audio easier to hear. ANC does not guarantee silence, and it cannot remove every voice, impact or changing sound. Consider it a comfort and isolation feature rather than a replacement for a quiet room.
SteelSeries GG and Sonar
PC users can use SteelSeries GG and Sonar for software-based customization. Windows 10 or newer is required for ChatMix through GG/Sonar. If you are buying primarily for a Mac, console or mobile device, do not count Windows-only ChatMix as part of the core platform experience.
On a Windows PC, install the current GG software, connect the transmitter, and select the Nova Pro Wireless for playback and microphone use in the operating system and in each game or voice application. If ChatMix does not appear, first verify that the PC runs Windows 10 or newer and that GG/Sonar recognizes the headset. Then check that the game and chat applications are using the same headset endpoints rather than bypassing Sonar with another output device.

Setup checklist for each device
PC
- Connect the transmitter to a USB port on the computer.
- Power on the headset and wait for the transmitter and headset to establish their wireless link.
- In Windows sound settings, choose the Nova Pro Wireless playback and microphone devices.
- Open GG/Sonar if you need ChatMix or software customization, and confirm that the headset is detected.
- In each game, meeting app and voice client, select the intended playback and microphone endpoints and test both game and chat audio.
PlayStation
- Connect the transmitter to the console through the supported USB connection.
- Turn on the headset and select it in the console’s audio-device settings if automatic selection does not occur.
- Run a short game and voice-chat test before a competitive session.
Xbox
- Use the Xbox variant’s dedicated Xbox port for the console.
- Connect the transmitter and power on the headset.
- Confirm game and party-chat audio in the console settings.
- Use the second connection for a supported computer or other system only if that multi-device arrangement is useful to you.
Switch or handheld
- Connect the transmitter to the available supported USB connection on the console or dock.
- Power on the headset and select the headset audio path if the system asks you to choose one.
- For handheld use, verify that your particular dock, adapter or USB arrangement supplies the required connection.
Mac
- Connect the transmitter by USB.
- Select the headset for sound output and microphone input in macOS.
- Pair a phone over Bluetooth separately if you want mobile audio at the same time.
Mobile Bluetooth
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Put the headset into pairing mode using its controls.
- Select the Nova Pro Wireless in the phone’s device list.
- Start playback or a call and adjust the relative levels with the headset controls.
Common problems and practical fixes
“My Xbox does not recognize the headset”
- Confirm that you bought the Xbox variant; the non-Xbox configuration does not have the dedicated Xbox port.
- Move the Xbox connection to the dedicated port on the Xbox transmitter.
- Reseat the USB connection, restart the console and headset, and test again.
- If the headset works on a PC or PlayStation but not Xbox, recheck the variant and port before assuming the wireless hardware has failed.
“ChatMix is missing on my PC”
- Verify that Windows 10 or newer is installed.
- Install or open SteelSeries GG and confirm that Sonar detects the headset.
- Set the headset or Sonar endpoints as the active Windows and in-game devices.
- Close applications that have captured a different audio device, then reopen the game or chat program.
“The battery will not charge”
- Swap in the other battery to determine whether the issue follows one pack or affects the charging system.
- Check that the pack is fully seated in the charging position.
- Allow the charging cycle to begin before testing the headset again.
- If the box contained only one battery, compare the contents with the official guide and contact the seller before buying a replacement.
“Bluetooth works, but game audio is absent”
- Confirm that the transmitter is connected to the gaming system and powered.
- Check that the console or computer has selected the headset as its output.
- Keep the phone paired over Bluetooth, but do not mistake the phone connection for the transmitter connection.
- Test each source separately, then bring both online and adjust their balance.
Who should buy the Nova Pro Wireless?
It is a strong fit when
- You want a premium wireless headset that can serve PC, PlayStation, Switch, Mac and mobile Bluetooth devices.
- You regularly play long sessions and value a charged spare battery more than a single built-in battery.
- You need ANC and software customization on a compatible Windows PC.
- You want game audio and phone Bluetooth audio available at the same time.
- You own an Xbox and specifically need the dedicated Xbox port; in that case, choose the Xbox edition.
Look elsewhere or choose carefully when
- You need only one inexpensive platform and will never use a spare battery, ANC or dual wireless.
- You expect every GG/Sonar feature to work on macOS or consoles; ChatMix through GG/Sonar requires Windows 10 or newer.
- You are buying from a listing that does not clearly identify the platform variant or package contents.
- You are comparing it with the newer Arctis Nova Pro Omni and need current-model features; that is a separate product decision, not a reason to assume the Nova Pro Wireless has changed.
Final pre-purchase checklist
- Choose Xbox only when you need the dedicated Xbox port; otherwise select the non-Xbox configuration for PC, PlayStation or Switch-focused use.
- Confirm support for your exact systems: PC, PS5/PS5 Pro, PS4/PS4 Pro, Switch or handheld, Mac and mobile Bluetooth are listed platforms.
- Verify Windows 10 or newer if ChatMix and Sonar are important.
- Confirm that the package includes the official second battery for your regional SKU.
- Decide whether dual wireless phone audio and ANC are features you will actually use.
- Check current retailer pricing and stock at the time of purchase; those change and are not stable specifications of the headset.
