The discontinued Steelcraft Strider Compact can carry two children only within separate seat limits: up to 20 kg in the main seat and 17 kg in the second seat. The most important buying issue today is compatibility: a second seat from another Strider generation may not fit, so confirm the exact frame and seat with Britax before use.
What you need to know about the second seat
Britax Australia lists a maximum child weight of 20 kg for the main seat and 17 kg for the second seat. These are individual limits, not a combined capacity. The Compact Deluxe manual specifies that the second seat belongs at the rear of the stroller, faces forward and must be locked correctly. It warns: “DO NOT OVERLOAD THE STROLLER. OVERLOADING WILL CAUSE THE STROLLER TO TIP BACKWARDS.” Britax’s Strider FAQ and the Strider Compact Deluxe manual, Series HA8343 provide the limits and instructions.

Which second seat fits a Strider Compact?
Britax says the current Strider Signature second seat fits an older Strider Compact, but a Strider Plus second seat does not. In a manufacturer reply on ProductReview.com.au, Britax also cautions that the Compact seat was not tested on the Signature stroller. Those statements do not establish that every Compact frame or every cross-generation combination is compatible.
Before buying or attaching a secondhand or newer-generation seat, identify the exact stroller frame and seat model and ask Britax to confirm fit. Check the frame’s mounting points, any included extenders, and the second seat’s fabric and harness condition. The Compact is discontinued, and current spare-part availability is not established.

Can the main seat on a Strider Compact be used in reverse mode with the second seat attached?
Britax’s FAQ says it is physically possible to reverse the main seat with the second seat attached, but it is not recommended. The FAQ suggests fully reclining the upper seat if someone chooses that arrangement. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model; do not treat physical fit as an endorsement of that configuration.
Can you purchase a bootcover or footmuff to fit the second seat?
Britax says the second seat is not compatible with a bootcover. The available official information does not establish a compatible footmuff for this seat, so confirm accessory fit with Britax rather than assuming that an item made for another Strider seat or generation will work.

Will the Strider Compact fit through a standard doorway?
The width figures in the available records differ. Britax’s FAQ gives a width of 625 mm; CHOICE lists 64 cm. Both figures are narrower than many standard interior door openings, but doorway widths vary and the stroller’s actual clearance depends on the opening and how it is measured. Measure your doorway at its narrowest point and compare it with the specific stroller you are considering.

The Compact Deluxe manual identifies the Deluxe second seat, Deluxe bassinet, Steelcraft baby capsule and Britax Unity baby capsule as separately sold compatible products for the manual’s model. It lists maximum weights of 17 kg for the second seat, 9 kg for the Deluxe bassinet and Steelcraft capsule, and 12 kg for the Britax Unity capsule. These limits apply to the products and manual described, not automatically to later generations or other accessories.

For capsule use, the manual names Steelcraft capsules and specified Britax Safe-n-Sound Unity variants, with Click & Go receivers for Unity. Check the precise capsule model and generation against the official compatibility information before buying adaptors or attaching a capsule. Follow the manual’s orientation and locking checks, remove the capsule before folding the stroller, and do not use a capsule as a replacement for an appropriate cot. Follow the capsule’s own instructions for use in a car.

What to check before buying a used Compact
- Confirm the frame’s exact model or batch details and ask Britax to verify the second seat’s compatibility with that frame.
- Inspect the seat’s mounting points, supplied extenders, fabric, buckles and harness for damage or missing parts.
- Check that both seats lock securely and use each only in the orientations and configurations specified for the exact model.
- Verify accessory and capsule compatibility by exact model and generation; do not assume that a similar-looking part fits.
- Assess the frame’s condition in person where possible. The available listing does not establish the service life or condition of any secondhand stroller.
