What Steam Wishlist and Follow each do
Wishlist a game to save the title and get eligible notifications
Adding a game to your Wishlist saves that specific title to your personal list. Valve says Steam can send notifications about eligible discounts and new releases, including when a game leaves Early Access. Its Wishlist Notifications page describes email and mobile-app alerts for certain sale promotions. The available alerts and delivery options depend on your notification preferences.

Follow a game for its announcements
Following a game is for news rather than saving it to your Wishlist. Valve describes the result plainly: “Following a game means you will see announcements from that game in your community activity feed.” Steam Discovery Update

Follow a developer or publisher for creator updates
Following a developer or publisher tracks that creator’s announcements and new releases, not just one game. Valve has also described followed creators’ new releases appearing at the top of the Steam homepage, with email notifications available subject to opt-out. How to choose for an upcoming game
- Want to remember one title or watch for an eligible deal or release alert? Wishlist it.
- Want the game’s announcements in your Steam community activity feed? Follow the game.
- Want news about the studio or publisher beyond this one title? Follow the developer or publisher.
- Want both discovery and updates? Wishlist the game and follow it; consider following its creator as well if you want that creator’s broader news.

Check notification preferences before relying on an alert
Wishlist and Follow do not promise the same kind of update, and notification delivery can depend on your account settings. Review Steam’s current notification options on its Wishlist Notifications page and in your account preferences if you are counting on a particular alert or delivery channel.
