Meta Quest 3 is the better-supported choice if you want a PC VR headset you can also use for standalone games and mixed reality. Steam Frame is the more focused concept for wireless streaming from a Steam library, but its final specifications, availability, price and real-world streaming performance are not established here. The choice depends more on your preferred setup and use beyond PC VR than on headline display numbers.
How Steam Frame and Meta Quest 3 approach PC VR
Valve describes Steam Frame as a wireless, streaming-first headset designed primarily to play a Steam library streamed from a PC. Its listed design features include an included 6 GHz wireless adapter, dual radios, multi-link streaming and eye-tracked foveated streaming. These are Valve’s product claims, not independent measurements of latency, image quality or reliability. Valve also says some specifications may change before availability. Valve’s Steam Frame page

Quest 3 is a standalone headset that can also connect to PC VR. Meta lists wired Meta Quest Link and wireless Air Link; Valve’s Steam Link app can stream Steam games from a computer running Steam and SteamVR. These routes are distinct, and the available specifications do not establish that they offer identical compatibility or performance. Meta’s device comparison · Steam Link on the Meta Store

Which headset fits your priorities?
| What matters most | Better-supported fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless streaming from a Steam library as the headset’s central purpose | Steam Frame | Valve emphasizes streaming-first design and lists a dedicated adapter, dual radios, multi-link streaming and eye-tracked foveated streaming. Those design claims still need independent performance testing. |
| Standalone VR alongside PC VR | Meta Quest 3 | Meta documents Quest 3 as an all-in-one headset with standalone and PC VR use. |
| A wired PC VR option | Meta Quest 3 | Meta lists Quest Link by cable or Air Link. The cited Valve material does not establish a comparable wired Steam Frame PC VR route. |
| Published nominal display resolution and maximum refresh rate | Steam Frame on listed figures | Valve lists more pixels per eye and a higher maximum refresh rate, but the refresh-rate maximum is experimental and the figures do not prove better perceived image quality or smoother gameplay. |
| Published PC and network guidance for Steam streaming | Meta Quest 3 using Steam Link | The Steam Link app listing specifies minimum and recommended PC and network requirements. Comparable finalized Steam Frame requirements are not established in the cited Valve material. |
What the display specifications do—and do not—tell you
Valve lists Steam Frame at 2160 × 2160 LCD pixels per eye and 72–144 Hz, with 144 Hz marked experimental. Meta’s developer material lists Quest 3 at 2064 × 2208 physical pixels per eye and refresh rates up to 120 Hz. By those published figures, Steam Frame has more pixels per eye and a higher listed maximum refresh rate; neither comparison is an image-quality verdict. Physical panel resolution is not the same as the resolution rendered by a game. Meta says Quest 3’s default 100% render scale is 1680 × 1760 per eye, below its physical panel resolution. Actual clarity and smoothness also depend on the game’s workload, PC rendering settings, streaming compression and network conditions. Meta’s device specifications · Meta’s rendering guidance

A capable PC is only part of the setup: wireless streaming also depends on the local network. The app listing recommends connecting the PC to the router by cable and using Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E for the headset. It does not promise a particular latency, image quality or result in every home.
Standalone games and mixed reality
Quest 3 is the clearer fit if PC VR is only one part of what you want. Meta identifies it as a wireless all-in-one headset and lists color stereoscopic passthrough and depth sensing alongside PC VR support. Quest 3S is also in Meta’s current device lineup, but it is a separate model; Quest 3 specifications and optics should not be assumed to apply to every Quest headset. Meta’s Quest comparison
