For Steam games on a supported Quest, Valve’s free Steam Link app is another wireless route. Official information describes different features and setup requirements, but does not establish which option has lower latency or better image quality in a direct comparison.
First, distinguish Quest Link from Steam Link
Meta Quest Link is Meta’s PC VR connection route: it works by cable or wirelessly through Air Link. Steam Link is Valve’s app for streaming Steam games from a computer to supported Quest headsets. They are separate options, not two names for the same connection method.

Valve lists Steam Link support for Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro. Its setup guidance calls for a wired connection between the PC and router, with the headset on 5 GHz Wi-Fi. (Valve Steam Remote Play setup and requirements; Meta Steam Link app listing)

| Option | Connection | What the official sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Frame | Wireless streaming using an included 6 GHz adapter | Valve describes a dedicated streaming link, dual radios, Multi-Link Streaming and eye-tracked Foveated Streaming. It also says the headset runs SteamOS and supports standalone play for a growing number of VR and non-VR games. (Valve Steam Frame) |
| Meta Quest Link | USB cable | Meta lists wired Link as a PC VR connection method. Its developer hardware setup recommends a USB-C cable capable of 5 GB/s or higher and names the Meta Horizon Link Cable; this is developer guidance, not a complete consumer cable-buying guide. (Meta Quest Link and Air Link; Meta developer hardware setup) |
| Meta Air Link | Wireless over Wi-Fi | Meta lists Air Link as a PC VR connection method. Its technical guidance says network degradation can cause dropped frames and lag. (Meta Quest Link and Air Link; Meta Air Link network guidance) |
| Steam Link on Quest | Wireless over the local network | Streams Steam games to supported Quest headsets. Valve’s minimum requirements include Windows 10 or newer, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or better, a 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 router and a wired PC-to-router connection. (Valve Steam Remote Play setup and requirements) |
What Steam Frame’s streaming features mean
Dedicated wireless adapter and dual radios
Valve calls Steam Frame a “streaming-first” headset and says the included plug-and-play 6 GHz adapter provides a dedicated link. Valve describes one radio as dedicated to audio and visual streaming and another as connecting to Wi-Fi. These are the company’s product descriptions, not independent measurements of connection quality. (Valve Steam Frame)

Multi-Link and Foveated Streaming
Valve says Multi-Link Streaming routes data over available headset connections with redundancy. It describes Foveated Streaming as using low-latency eye tracking to direct detail toward the wearer’s gaze. Valve claims this enables “over a 10x improvement in image quality and effective bandwidth.” That is Valve’s feature claim; the official material reviewed does not independently verify it or compare it with Quest Link under matching conditions. (Valve Steam Frame)
Valve also says Steam Frame can play a growing number of VR and non-VR games on the headset itself through SteamOS. That does not establish that every Steam game runs standalone, nor does the available information compare its standalone catalog with Quest’s. (Valve Steam Frame)

Check your PC and network before choosing wireless
Wireless PC VR depends on the computer and local network as well as the headset. For Steam Link on Quest, Valve’s listed minimums include a Windows 10-or-newer PC, NVIDIA GTX 970 or better, 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 router, and wired PC-to-router connection. Meta’s Steam Link app listing recommends Wi-Fi 6 or 6E, wired PC networking, 16 GB of RAM and stronger GPU options. Minimums and recommendations describe compatibility guidance; they do not guarantee smooth performance on a particular setup. (Valve Steam Remote Play setup and requirements; Meta Steam Link app listing)
For Air Link, Meta warns that network degradation may lead to lag or dropped frames. A newer Wi-Fi router may help address an inadequate network, but an upgrade alone cannot guarantee low latency. (Meta Air Link network guidance)

Choose by how you want to play
Pick Steam Frame if Valve’s streaming-first approach is the draw
- You want the headset designed around PC streaming, with Valve’s stated dedicated 6 GHz adapter, dual-radio setup and streaming features.
- You value SteamOS standalone play as well as streaming, while recognizing Valve describes support as covering a growing number of games rather than the whole Steam library.
Pick a Quest if you want connection flexibility
- You want the choice between wired Quest Link and wireless Air Link for PC VR.
- You already own a supported Quest and want to stream Steam games wirelessly with Steam Link, subject to the PC and network requirements.
Compare your actual setup, not just the feature lists
If you need a wired PC VR connection, Quest Link offers that route; Steam Link on Quest and the Steam Frame proposition described here are wireless. If you prefer wireless, check the PC, router and connection layout against the relevant requirements before deciding. The available official sources do not provide a like-for-like test that establishes which headset streams with lower latency, greater reliability or better image quality.
