Juggernaut Edition is the expanded version of State of Decay 2 now shown on official store listings. It includes the base game, the Independence, Daybreak, and Heartland packs, plus Homecoming content on the current Xbox listing. If you already owned State of Decay 2 when Juggernaut launched in 2020, Xbox announced that you would receive it as a free automatic upgrade.
What do Standard and Juggernaut Edition mean?
Standard Edition
Standard was the original base-game purchase. It belongs to the earlier product lineup, rather than being the edition currently presented by Microsoft’s official storefronts.

Juggernaut Edition
Microsoft described Juggernaut Edition as replacing the Standard and Ultimate editions. It is more than a new label for the base game: it brings together add-on content and gameplay and presentation updates. Xbox Wire’s February 14, 2020 announcement said existing owners would receive a free automatic upgrade, including Xbox Game Pass members. The Windows Experience Blog’s launch post likewise described Juggernaut as replacing the previous editions.
What does Juggernaut Edition include?
The current US Xbox Store listing describes the game as including the following packs and content:

- Homecoming: Trumbull Valley content, including an open-world map, story missions, landmarks, and returning characters. Xbox Wire’s September 1, 2021 Homecoming announcement says the story takes place after Heartland.
There is a date distinction behind the pack list: Xbox’s 2020 Juggernaut announcement named Independence, Daybreak, and Heartland as the three included add-on packs at launch. Homecoming arrived later, in 2021, and appears in the current Xbox edition description.
What does Juggernaut add beyond DLC?
Official launch materials also describe changes to the base game, including the Providence Ridge open-world map, a rebuilt post-tutorial introduction, heavy melee weapons, additional music, and changes to controls such as separate dodge and stealth commands. Microsoft’s current listing additionally highlights remastered graphics, an upgraded engine, an expanded soundtrack, two-handed heavy weapons, and improved controls.

These are publisher descriptions, not independent performance measurements. The official materials mention lighting and foliage performance improvements, but they do not establish a quantified benchmark for how much performance changed on a particular PC or console.

The US Xbox listing identifies Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It also lists online co-op for two to four players. For console online multiplayer, the listing says an eligible Xbox Game Pass subscription is required and sold separately. Steam is another PC storefront route; platform access, cloud availability, and multiplayer terms depend on the relevant store and service.

Prices are storefront snapshots, not fixed edition prices. At the time represented by the available listings, the US Xbox Store showed $29.99+, while Steam showed a limited-time $7.49 offer against a listed $29.99 price, with the offer ending October 8, 2026. Which version or access route should you choose?
- You already owned the game before Juggernaut launched: Xbox announced a free automatic upgrade for existing owners; you did not need to buy Juggernaut again to receive that announced upgrade.
- You are buying it now: compare the current Xbox and Steam listings for your platform, price, and preferred storefront. The current Xbox listing describes the included packs and Homecoming content.
- You plan to play online on console: account for the eligible Xbox Game Pass subscription requirement listed for console online multiplayer.
- You are considering cloud play or a subscription: check current service availability and access terms, since these can change independently of the game edition.
