OneWeb is presented in Eutelsat’s available corporate material as a partner-distributed network for business, government, and community customers. Amazon Leo has announced enterprise preview access and a staged 2026 rollout, but its published terminal speeds do not establish that service is available to households at a particular address.
How the three services differ
These names are not three interchangeable household internet plans. The most important distinction is who can buy service, and how far each offering has progressed as a consumer option.

| Service | What the available provider material describes | What a prospective customer should verify |
|---|---|---|
| Starlink | Residential plans with address-based eligibility, plus other service offerings. Starlink’s plan page and availability map are the starting points. | Whether service is offered at the exact address, local plan terms, full equipment cost, and installation suitability. |
| OneWeb | Eutelsat’s investor material describes OneWeb as a business-to-business and business-to-government network distributed through partners, with community needs also mentioned. | Whether a local reseller has a current offer for the intended use, and its price, terminal, coverage, and service-level terms. The cited corporate material does not establish these details. |
| Amazon Leo | Amazon announced an enterprise preview beginning in November 2025 and described a staged rollout planned for 2026. Its rollout announcement said service would begin in northern and southern latitudes and expand gradually toward the Equator. | Whether service has opened to the relevant customer type and location, and the local price, terminal, and contract terms. Announced rollout plans are not confirmation of availability at a particular address. |
Amazon retired the name Project Kuiper and adopted Amazon Leo in November 2025. Its rollout announcements describe a plan, not a guarantee of household service everywhere in 2026. Likewise, OneWeb’s corporate positioning is not proof that no direct or consumer offer exists in any market; check with local providers before ruling one out.
Which is the practical choice for a rural home?
Start with the exact address
Check Starlink’s availability map and plan page for the service location, rather than relying on a country-level coverage claim. Starlink says availability and performance vary by region. A network’s international footprint does not by itself mean an active offer is available at a specific home.
#1 Best Overall
- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
For OneWeb, look for a current local reseller or integrator offer and ask whether it is designed for a residence. The cited Eutelsat material explains a partner-mediated business and government model but does not give a household signup path. For Amazon Leo, look for a live offer for your location and customer type; the announced terminal capabilities and rollout schedule are not a substitute for one.
Compare the full cost and installation, not just the monthly fee
Starlink service requires a physical Starlink Kit: a user terminal, Wi-Fi router, power supply, and mount. Its installation is described as plug-and-play, but the terminal needs a clear view of the sky; check the Starlink specifications and your site before purchasing. Confirm the hardware generation, local listing, service eligibility, and any mounting needs. A compatible mount depends on the terminal generation and installation, so do not assume every accessory fits every kit.
Amazon has announced three terminal classes, but the cited public material does not establish local consumer prices or a complete household purchase path. The OneWeb material likewise does not establish current local terminal choices or prices. Request an itemized quote from the provider or reseller that serves your location, including equipment, installation, recurring fees, and any contract or data-priority conditions.

Use a rural-broadband checklist
- Address eligibility and any capacity or service restrictions.
- Total equipment and installation cost, plus the recurring plan charge.
- Typical download and upload performance, latency, and plan priority rules.
- Data limits or traffic policies, and whether they change under congestion.
- Clear-sky installation requirements and practical obstructions at the property.
- Support, repair or replacement terms, and any contract commitment.
Compare those terms with available fixed-line, fixed-wireless, or mobile broadband alternatives at the same address. Satellite is not automatically the best option if a suitable terrestrial connection is available.
What do the published speed figures actually mean?
The figures below are not a head-to-head test. Starlink publishes residential plan information and a separate technical specification; Amazon publishes maximum terminal capabilities. Those are different kinds of claims, and none establishes what a particular customer will consistently experience.
| Provider and figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| Starlink Residential Max: typical downloads up to 400+ Mbps and uploads of 20–40 Mbps; selected markets also have residential tiers capped at 100 Mbps or 200 Mbps. Starlink residential plan support, accessed October 7, 2026. | Plan-specific provider figures; market terms apply. Starlink says residential plans include unlimited data, but that does not mean speed is guaranteed. |
| Starlink technical specification: typical downloads of 25–220 Mbps, uploads of 5–20 Mbps, and land latency of 25–60 ms. Starlink specifications, page publication date not stated; accessed October 7, 2026. | Provider-stated typical ranges, not guaranteed household results. Starlink says actual performance can vary by location, time, and plan priority. |
| Amazon Leo Nano: up to 100 Mbps down; Pro: up to 400 Mbps down; Ultra: up to 1 Gbps down and up to 400 Mbps up. Amazon’s terminal announcement, 2025. | Manufacturer-published terminal capability ceilings, not typical service speeds or proof of availability at a location. |
| OneWeb residential speed figure: not stated in the cited Eutelsat investor material. | The material is not a current local household plan specification; request performance commitments from a provider offering service for the intended use. |
Do not rank the providers by putting Amazon’s terminal ceilings beside Starlink’s typical ranges. The figures differ in type, and the cited sources do not provide a neutral, independently measured comparison under shared conditions. For a real service offer, ask how performance is described for your location, plan, and time of use.

When OneWeb or Amazon Leo may make more sense for organizations
For business continuity, remote infrastructure, or government operations, the comparison is broader than residential download speed. The relevant offer may depend on a distributor, integrator, or enterprise contract rather than a self-service home plan.

- OneWeb: Eutelsat’s investor material positions the network for enterprise, government, and community needs through distribution partners. Because that material is dated and does not establish current local commercial terms, ask a prospective partner for coverage, terminal options, priority, support, network integration, and service-level commitments.
- Amazon Leo: Amazon announced an enterprise preview in November 2025 and named maritime reseller agreements with ELCOME and MTN on February 10, 2026. The maritime announcement supports a business-reseller route for maritime customers, not a general consumer signup path. Ask those or other providers for actual local terms and vessel suitability.
- Starlink: Its residential product is designed for fixed household use. For a mobile, maritime, or aviation deployment, verify that the specific service plan, hardware, and local authorization support that use; a residential plan should not be assumed suitable for an in-motion installation.
For travel, maritime, or aviation use, compare mobility authorization, service footprint along the route, antenna class, vehicle or vessel integration, reseller access, and support. A company’s availability in one geography or customer segment does not establish approval or service for another.
Is Amazon Leo’s phone connectivity the same as satellite broadband?
No. Amazon separately announced an agreement to acquire Globalstar and described planned direct-to-device services. That is a distinct future capability, not evidence that ordinary smartphones can currently use Amazon Leo as a broadband terminal. See Amazon’s Globalstar announcement for the scope of that plan.
How to make the decision
- For a home, check Starlink at the exact address using its availability map, then compare the local plan, equipment, and installation costs with terrestrial options.
- For OneWeb, identify the local partner and request a current quote and contract terms for your specific use. Do not treat corporate network positioning as a household retail offer.
- For Amazon Leo, confirm that the service is actually offered to your customer type and location before using its published terminal figures in a buying decision.
- Compare like with like: typical or contractually specified speeds, upload, latency, data and priority policies, equipment, support, and any mobility requirements.
There is no verified cross-provider price comparison or independent head-to-head speed statistic in the cited material, so a universal “fastest” or “cheapest” winner is not established. For a household evaluating service now, Starlink is the clearest published residential option among these three; OneWeb is best approached through a local business or government partner unless a current home offer is available, and Amazon Leo should be treated as an emerging service until an address-specific offer confirms otherwise.
