Starlink is the clearer fit for a household or individual who wants to check an address, choose a public plan and order a terminal directly. Eutelsat OneWeb is positioned in the cited material around business, government, aviation, maritime and other fixed or mobile deployments, typically involving specialized equipment and a provider or distribution channel. Which is right depends first on where you need service and how you will use it—not on a universal speed ranking.
Starlink vs. OneWeb at a glance
| Decision | Starlink | Eutelsat OneWeb | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical buying context | Public residential and Roam plans, plus business offerings; consumers can check plans and order through Starlink. Starlink plans | Network connectivity and deployment-specific terminals, with cited applications including enterprise, government, aviation, maritime and rural or community broadband. OneWeb equipment catalog | Whether you are buying for a home, a traveler, a fleet, an agency or a service provider. |
| Availability | Plans and prices depend on the service address and market. Starlink Residential | Eutelsat describes global network reach, but network reach alone does not establish local authorization, terminal supply or an offer to an individual customer. OneWeb constellation | Coverage, local regulatory status, capacity, sales channel and the exact terminal at the operating location. |
| Published performance evidence | Starlink’s cited specification gives vendor-stated typical ranges, with performance caveats. Starlink specifications | Eutelsat describes OneWeb as high-speed and low-latency, but the cited official material does not provide a directly comparable household speed table. OneWeb constellation | Compare only measurements made with comparable locations, terminals, plans, network load and methods. |
| Equipment | Consumer service uses a Starlink user terminal and associated equipment; the Mini is a compact portable option with built-in Wi-Fi and DC input. Starlink specifications Availability map and Mini description | Terminals vary by application, including fixed enterprise equipment and dedicated land-mobility and maritime models. OneWeb equipment catalog | Whether equipment is included, who installs and supports it, and whether it is designed for stationary or in-motion use. |
| How customers procure service | Direct plan and kit flow, with separate business offerings and terms. Starlink plan, performance and hardware support | Commercial examples include aviation and government distribution arrangements; request details from the relevant provider or partner. Eutelsat business aviation UK government connectivity announcement | Service scope, equipment, installation, support and contract terms—not just the network name. |
Is Starlink better than OneWeb?
There is no supported universal winner in the available specifications. Starlink publishes typical speed and latency ranges, while Eutelsat characterizes OneWeb’s service as high-speed and low-latency without a like-for-like consumer speed table in the cited material. Those descriptions are not controlled head-to-head results, so they cannot establish that one is faster or has lower latency for a particular user.

Starlink’s cited specification lists typical downloads of 25–220 Mbps, with most users above 100 Mbps; typical uploads of 5–20 Mbps; and land latency of 25–60 ms. These are vendor-reported ranges, not guarantees. Starlink says actual performance varies by location, time of day and plan priority, and that uninterrupted service is not guaranteed. The specification page was crawled more than a year before October 4, 2026, so check its live version before relying on those figures for a purchase decision. Starlink specifications and caveats
Eutelsat describes OneWeb as a constellation of more than 600 satellites in 12 synchronized orbital planes at 1,200 km altitude. That is a network description, not a measured speed comparison or a promise of performance at a particular site. Eutelsat OneWeb constellation

Which service can you get at your location?
Check Starlink by service address
Starlink directs prospective customers to enter a service address or use its availability map. Available plans and prices vary by market, and not every plan is offered at every address. Check the address-level result rather than assuming that a country or region listing guarantees capacity or the plan you want. Starlink Residential Starlink availability map
Check OneWeb through the service channel
Eutelsat describes OneWeb connectivity across land, sea and air, but that global network reach does not by itself mean an individual can order residential service anywhere. Local regulatory approval, service capacity, terminal availability and a sales or distribution channel all matter. Ask a relevant provider or partner about the exact location and application before treating coverage language as an available service offer.

How much does Starlink cost per month?
The Starlink plans page displayed these U.S. monthly prices when accessed October 4, 2026. They are market-specific, dynamic offers—not prices for other countries or a guarantee that each tier is available at a particular address. Starlink says pricing varies by currency, taxes and local market conditions, and promotional or limited-availability offers may differ between customers. What does OneWeb cost?
The cited OneWeb material does not give a generally available consumer monthly price comparable to Starlink’s public residential tiers. In the documented commercial contexts, procurement is through a provider or distribution channel, so request a quote that specifies the service, terminal, installation, support, fees and contract terms. This reflects the published business and partner examples, not a claim that every OneWeb offer follows one universal pricing model. Can you get OneWeb internet at home?
The cited material does not establish a standard direct-to-consumer OneWeb home plan with public monthly pricing like Starlink’s Residential offer. It also does not establish that OneWeb cannot support residential or community connectivity: Eutelsat’s equipment catalog includes rural and community broadband use cases. The practical question is whether a local provider offers a suitable OneWeb-backed service, terminal and support at your address. OneWeb equipment catalog

What equipment do Starlink and OneWeb require?
Starlink terminals
Starlink’s specification describes a user terminal, Wi-Fi router, power supply and mount among the equipment. Its Mini is a compact portable terminal with built-in Wi-Fi and DC power input; Starlink describes maximum download speeds over 200 Mbps. That maximum is a product claim, not a guarantee of the typical speed at a particular location. Mini is an option for portability, not a requirement for all Starlink service or necessarily the right terminal for every installation. Starlink specifications Starlink Mini description

OneWeb equipment is application-specific rather than one universal home kit. Eutelsat’s catalog includes the Hughes HL1100W for fixed enterprise and government deployments and the Intellian OW50SL-DAC for fixed broadband use cases that include rural and community connectivity, alongside land-mobility and maritime equipment. Confirm with the provider which terminal supports your deployment, whether it can operate in motion, who supplies and installs it, and what local support is available. Does OneWeb work on airplanes or ships?
Eutelsat describes OneWeb connectivity for fixed and mobile use on land, at sea and in the air, and maintains dedicated aviation service information. Its April 2, 2025 announcement reported more than 100 certified aviation antenna installations and over 1,000 aircraft in backlog at that time; those are dated announcement figures, not current totals. Eutelsat also identifies Gogo in its business-aviation ecosystem. For a specific aircraft, vessel or route, ask the operator or service provider about terminal certification, coverage, installation, capacity and the service actually offered. OneWeb network use cases April 2, 2025 aviation announcement Eutelsat business aviation
For government deployments, Eutelsat announced on July 21, 2025 that it would deliver OneWeb LEO connectivity for UK government operations worldwide. This is a specific government-channel example, not evidence of a general retail offer in every country. Eutelsat UK government announcement
How to choose between them
- Start with the location. Check Starlink’s address flow or map; for OneWeb, ask the service provider or channel about local availability, authorization and capacity.
- Define the deployment. A fixed household, portable traveler, moving vehicle, ship, aircraft and remote business site may need different plans, terminals and installations.
- Compare complete costs and terms. Include equipment, mounting or installation, taxes, monthly charges, data or priority conditions, service support and contract terms.
- Request comparable performance evidence. Ask for results relevant to your location and terminal; vendor descriptions from different contexts are not a head-to-head test.
For a household wanting a public self-service plan, Starlink is the more directly documented option in these sources. For specialized enterprise, government, aviation or maritime connectivity, OneWeb is presented through a more application-specific ecosystem. The deciding factors remain local availability, suitable hardware, and the exact service terms.
