For most new campaigns, unlock the Black Market early, then add Medbay beds if injuries are keeping your main squad out of action. Change that order when a different constraint matters more: expand Crew Quarters if you need substitutes, build a Droid Repair Bay if you plan to recruit astromechs, or invest in combat and development upgrades when those better serve the squad you actually field. There is no proven universal best order.
What is a good early Den upgrade order?
Use this as a flexible starting sequence, not a guaranteed optimum:

- Black Market when you need access to purchasable Weapon Mods and Utility Items.
- Medbay beds if injuries are limiting how many of your core operators can deploy.
- Crew Quarters if the roster lacks enough substitutes for injuries or separate mission assignments.
- Crew Focus when operator development is a more important constraint than immediate capacity.
- Combat Readiness if the squad can make effective use of starting Advantage.
- Networking, Lounge, Black Market Quality, or weapon upgrades according to whether Influence, Bonds, shop availability, or your actual weapon mix needs attention.
This sequence reflects the adaptable baseline in DTG Reviews’ September 1, 2026 Den guide, which explicitly says there is no universal order. It is strategic advice, not a controlled test or developer-endorsed ranking.
Which upgrade fits your current bottleneck?
| What you need | Upgrade to consider | What it does or why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| More equipment options | Black Market | Unlocks purchases of Weapon Mods and Utility Items. Quality and inventory improvements are separate follow-on options. |
| More injured operators treated at once | Medbay beds | Increases simultaneous injury-treatment capacity; the highest listed bed rank supports four operators at a time. It improves recovery throughput, not injury prevention. |
| More substitutes | Crew Quarters | Raises maximum roster size. No universal target roster size is established. |
| A regular astromech rotation | Droid Repair Bay | Unlocks droid recruitment and recovery for injured droids. It is a conditional choice if you do not intend to use droids. |
| More opening combat momentum | Combat Readiness | Ranks provide one, two, or three starting Advantage. StarWars.com notes that powerful special actions spend Advantage, so its value depends on whether your squad can convert it into useful actions. |
| Longer-term squad development | Crew Focus, Lounge, Networking, or weapon upgrades | Choose based on operator development, Bond progress, Influence, and weapons actually used by your deployed squad. |

When should you change the default order?
Injuries are sidelining the core squad
Move Medbay beds ahead of other upgrades if several operators need treatment and that is blocking deployments. The documented benefit is treating more operators simultaneously; do not treat it as a way to lower the rate of injury.
Your roster cannot cover missions
Prioritize Crew Quarters when you do not have enough available operators to cover injuries or separate mission assignments. Its supported effect is a higher maximum roster size, not a specific recommended roster target.

You intend to use droids
Build the Droid Repair Bay when droids are part of your planned rotation. The facility supports both recruitment and recovery for injured droids, so its relevance depends on your squad composition.
You need an equipment answer now
Unlock the Black Market when the squad needs access to Weapon Mods or Utility Items. Check its offerings each cycle and spend only when something helps the operators you are fielding. Inventory or quality upgrades can follow if shop availability—not initial access—is the problem.

- Command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic Star Wars story set in the twilight of the Clone Wars. Step into the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer leading Zero Company against an emerging threat that could consume the galaxy.
You want to start fights with more Advantage
Combat Readiness can be useful when your squad has strong ways to spend Advantage on special actions. Its ranks increase starting Advantage to one, two, or three, but that mechanic alone does not establish that it should outrank an urgent injury or roster need.
How do build slots and campaign cycles affect timing?
An upgrade takes at least one Cycle to build and requires an available Build Slot. Additional slots allow multiple upgrades to be constructed concurrently. If an important long-lead upgrade is ready to start, begin it when a slot is free and doing so fits the next cycle’s plan.

The Den is aboard a decommissioned cargo freighter permanently docked at the Ring of Kafrene. Its Holotable shows the missions and Operations available in the current cycle. StarWars.com’s August 27, 2026 getting-started guide says missions advance the campaign to the next cycle and advises completing Den activities before deploying.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →That timing matters because Operations are non-combat assignments that require Intel and may reward items, Credits, or Influence; some can also strengthen or weaken Bonds. You cannot take every mission and Operation, so an upgrade competes with other uses of your time and resources that cycle. Decide what the squad needs, review Den activities, then deploy when you are ready.

What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The upgrade descriptions establish individual in-game effects, while the independent guide offers a flexible prioritization approach. Neither establishes a measured success rate, cost-effectiveness comparison, or mathematically optimal upgrade order. Treat the suggested sequence as a practical default, then revise it around injuries, roster depth, droid use, equipment needs, and construction capacity.
For official context, StarWars.com describes Star Wars Zero Company as a single-player, turn-based tactics game set during the Clone Wars. Its available upgrade and deployment decisions are part of managing the Den between missions, rather than a separate universal build path.
