Star Wars: Galactic Racer reportedly began taking shape as a board game covered in sticky notes—a quick, physical way for Fuse Games to put ideas on the table and discuss them. The point was not to recreate the finished racing game with paper, but to test ideas and player emotion using whatever prototyping tool could get the team there fastest.
What the reported prototype looked like
A report based on an interview with Eurogamer says Fuse Games used a board-game setup covered in Post-It notes while developing Star Wars: Galactic Racer. CEO Matt Webster described the practical question behind the approach: “What’s the fastest way we can get ideas down and then talk about them?” The report presents the format as a way to make ideas visible and discussable.
That account does not establish that the notes and board formed a complete playable version of the final game. It describes an early prototyping approach, not a claim that Galactic Racer is a board game or that its finished races were designed on paper. The report is a republication referring to Eurogamer’s interview; the prototype detail and quoted wording should therefore be understood as attributed reporting, not as independently verified studio documentation.
Why use sticky notes instead of starting in a game engine?
Fuse Games creative director Kieran Crimmin’s stated principle was to choose a tool according to the system being tested and the speed at which it can validate the intended emotion. In the report, he says: “There’s a prototyping tool for every kind of system that you want to prototype, and the one that you pick should be the one that gets you there the quickest, and the quickest to validate the emotion.”
A low-fidelity tabletop sketch and a modern game engine offer different kinds of learning. Notes can make ideas quick to rearrange and easy to discuss; an engine can represent movement, physics, and responsiveness more directly. The reported comments do not quantify any time saved or claim that one method is better in every case. They point instead to a practical design choice: use the simplest tool that can answer the question at hand, then move to a richer prototype when the question requires it.

How that fits the game’s focus on feel
The physical prototype story sits alongside the game’s wider emphasis on how racing feels to play. In a September 1, 2026 interview, the game and design directors discuss vehicle handling, hovercraft physics, responsiveness, speed, and challenge as elements shaping the player’s sensation of racing. The official interview offers that design context, but does not independently confirm the Post-It prototype.
The distinction matters: a tabletop setup can help a team explore and communicate ideas, while questions about acceleration, handling, or physical response call for a prototype that can express those qualities. The report’s central lesson is not that sticky notes can substitute for a racing game, but that early ideas need not begin in the final medium.
What the prototype does—and does not—tell us about the release
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing game from Fuse Games and Lucasfilm Games. Announced at The Game Awards 2025, it is planned for worldwide release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 6, 2026. The official announcement describes a solo campaign and multiplayer, with vehicle choices, upgrades, event selection, rivals, and multiple classes of repulsorcraft. None of that turns the early prototype into evidence about the quality, scope, or final mechanics of the released game. The Post-It story is a small window into how the team reportedly made early concepts tangible: put them somewhere people can see, move them around, and talk about them before committing to a more detailed implementation.
