Sawyer praises its handling, atmosphere and run-based campaign, but says the six-planet roster feels limited and the final act grows repetitive and difficult before the story ends abruptly. That is one critic’s verdict, not a consensus score.
What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an arcade racing game from Fuse Games, set in a high-stakes racing league. Its solo campaign follows Shade, described by Lucasfilm Games as “a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge.” The game is scheduled to launch worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to StarWars.com.

The official announcement names Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions, along with two preorder bonuses: an additional repulsorcraft livery and a multiplayer player banner. Edition contents and availability can vary by retailer, so check the current listing for the platform and format you want.
How does the racing feel?
Sawyer’s strongest praise is for the sense of speed and the accessible, drift-heavy handling. The review likens its approachable feel more to Mario Kart than to a simulation such as Gran Turismo, while the title’s “Burnout legacy” framing points to the emphasis on velocity and dangerous racing rather than realism. Those are the reviewer’s comparisons, not a claim that the games play identically.
Races use three repulsorcraft classes: landspeeders, speeder bikes and skim speeders. The review describes them as having distinct handling, with fast drifting, afterburners, hazards and high-speed crashes shaping the action. It also singles out the tactile pre-race sequence and moments when choosing riskier ways to race can pay off.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
On PS5, Sawyer reports that adaptive-trigger feedback adds to the feel of driving. That observation applies to the PS5 review playthrough; it does not establish that a DualSense is required or that the same feature is available on other platforms.
How does the campaign work?
The campaign is arranged across three acts and built from run-based tours. Rather than simply moving through a fixed string of races, players choose branching event paths and upgrades as they progress. Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster describes those decisions as part of a run-inspired structure: vehicle choice, build upgrades and event selection help shape a racer’s route toward becoming League champion.

- Choose a path: Select among branching events in a tour.
- Develop a build: Pick upgrades to suit the vehicle and play style.
- Manage the run: Losing the League Token or being wrecked can end a tour, forcing a retry.
That structure gives individual decisions weight, but it also makes failure more costly than simply losing one isolated race. The review praises the risk-and-reward choices while finding the later campaign less varied and more punishing.
What does the review praise—and criticize?
| Area | Sawyer’s assessment |
|---|---|
| Speed and handling | Blisteringly fast, accessible racing built around drifting and boost management. |
| Campaign structure | Branching, run-based tours make route and upgrade choices meaningful; a failed run can require a retry. |
| Atmosphere | The Star Wars setting and characterful presentation are among the review’s strengths. |
| Planet and course variety | The six-planet selection feels too small for a Galactic League, and some circuits blend together. |
| Final act and ending | Act 3 repeats the planet order, increases the difficulty and leads to a campaign finish the reviewer finds abrupt. |
The review’s overall picture is of a game whose moment-to-moment racing can be compelling, even when the broader campaign does not sustain the same freshness. If you are mainly looking for speed, drifting and consequential race choices, those are the clearest reasons Sawyer recommends it. If a wide range of distinct locations and a satisfying campaign resolution matter most, his reservations are significant.

What else can you play?
Alongside the campaign, Sawyer says he tried Scenarios, Arcade and multiplayer. The official interview also describes high-stakes competition in both solo and multiplayer play. The available review does not establish a detailed breakdown of those modes’ content or their long-term depth, so it is safer to treat them as additional ways to race rather than assume a particular amount of replay content.
How much should you rely on this review?
GamesRadar+ says Sawyer spent over 30 hours playing, completed the campaign and tried Scenarios, Arcade and multiplayer. The publication discloses that the review was conducted on PS5 using a publisher-provided code. His comments about handling, difficulty and the campaign are therefore a substantial critic playthrough, but they are not independent performance benchmarks or evidence about every platform.

Sawyer’s review makes Star Wars: Galactic Racer sound most appealing as an arcade racer: it prizes pace, drifting and choices that can make a run succeed or collapse. Its smaller-feeling selection of planets and a tougher, repetitive final stretch keep the campaign from matching those strengths all the way through. The October 6, 2026 launch is announced for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; whether it is the right buy depends on how much you value its racing feel over campaign variety.
