Star Wars: Galactic Racer is worth considering if you want fast Star Wars racing built around risky runs, branching routes and learning from retries. The PS5 review by TechRadar’s Demi Williams is enthusiastic about its racing and replay loop, but flags repetitive Field Tests and a protagonist with limited depth. It is a better fit for players who enjoy improving through repeated events than for anyone seeking a story-first adventure.

The official premise puts racing on Jakku, including the Graveyard of Giants, an unsanctioned course winding through wreckage. Rather than a story-led Star Wars adventure with races as a side activity, this is primarily a racing and progression game: its New Republic-era setting and rivalry between Shade and champion Kestar Bool provide franchise context around the competition.

How the racing and run-based campaign work
PlayStation describes races in landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers, with players taking down rivals and building status in the Galactic League. TechRadar describes a campaign structured as runs: qualify through events, choose branching routes, and risk League Tokens when attempting events or recovering from failure. That makes route decisions and the consequences of a run part of the core loop, rather than each circuit feeling like an isolated race.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Events and route choices
TechRadar’s review describes standard races alongside Field Tests, Mystery Encounters and Eliminator events. In an Eliminator, the racer in last place is eliminated until only three remain. Route choices shape which challenges a run contains, while the possibility of losing League Tokens gives risk a progression cost.
Does it feel like a roguelike?
TechRadar calls it a roguelike racer. More practically, expect a run-and-retry structure: a failed attempt can cost progress, but knowledge gained from earlier events can make another run more manageable. Williams found that loop compelling, saying that returning after a loss felt rewarding because she understood more about what lay ahead. If repeated events sound like a chore rather than a chance to improve, the central design may not suit you.

What the PS5 review says about the experience
TechRadar lists PS5 as the reviewed platform and says Demi Williams spent almost 30 hours playing on a base PlayStation 5. Her review is positive about the excitement of the racing, customization and buildcraft, and the incentive to replay. She also reports a difficulty curve and says Field Tests became repetitive after numerous completions. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not results from independent PS5 testing for this article.

The review’s main character caveat is Shade: Williams finds the protagonist short on depth. The rivalry with Kestar Bool and the post-Empire setting establish a Star Wars frame, but the available review evidence supports treating character and plot as secondary to racing and progression.

- Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
- Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
- An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
- A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor
Vehicles: variety is established, PS5 handling comparisons are not
The official feature listing names four vehicle classes. Creative Bloq’s review, which names Xbox Series X/S as its reviewed format, describes landspeeders as balanced, speeder bikes as fast and maneuverable but delicate, and podracers as much faster and more fragile. These are that reviewer’s vehicle impressions; they are not PS5-specific test findings.
TechRadar’s PS5 review says its reviewer could not access Podracing Tour during the review period, so it does not provide a firsthand evaluation of that mode. The official listing confirms podracers as a vehicle type, but that alone does not establish how the locked mode plays.

- THEIR FLESH IS YOUR WEAPON: The corpses of exceptional warriors are scattered throughout Mortal Shell 2’s destroyed world. Once discovered, each warrior can be possessed, awakening their innate strengths and mastered abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing the unique abilities of each warrior and unlock their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.
- CLEANSE A RAVAGED WORLD: Mortal Shell 2’s compact open world connects over winding footpaths guarded by desperate and fanatical adversaries. Players who wander are rewarded with new warriors to possess, additional story elements, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities and more. Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests and icy graves, into citadels carved out of bone. Scattered between these lost landmarks are more than 60 dungeons, each providing a challenging test of the talents and weaponry you have collected on your journey.
- DETHRONE FALSE GODS: You control the Harbinger, a being that must reclaim the Undermether’s stolen eggs that are now ruthlessly guarded by grotesque, dangerous creatures. Mortal Shell 2’s combat system is agile and expressive. Stamina gauges are removed, and execution options have been enhanced, delivering a kinetic and chaotic dark power fantasy. Precision meets intensity in high-stakes combat.
Multiplayer and progression considerations
Creative Bloq’s review notes that multiplayer progression is upgrade-gated. That is a useful point to weigh if you mainly want to race online and dislike progression systems that make upgrades a prerequisite. The available review material does not establish a full breakdown of online modes or a PS5-specific comparative assessment, so it cannot settle how the multiplayer experience stacks up against other racers.
PS5 accessibility and comfort options
PlayStation’s game page lists a broad set of options, including visual comfort settings that can disable camera movement and effects and add a center-screen dot. It also lists adjustable text and subtitle presentation, color alternatives, high contrast, audio volume and mono options, alternative audio cues, directional audio indicators, controller remapping, stick sensitivity and inversion adjustments, play without motion controls or vibration, adjustable difficulty and assists, and the ability to pause offline.
Best Value
- Access to “The Vault”. Enjoy a thoughtfully curated collection of various types of development material and in-game assets showcasing the rich history of this iconic title.
- Engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies.
- Advanced 3D rendering enables updated lighting and atmospheric effects.
- A variety of power-ups are made available to the player, including health, shields, weapons and ammunition. For combat, the player may use fists, explosive landmines and thermal detonators, as well as blasters and other ranged weapons.
- Includes immersive environmental puzzles and mazes.
The same PlayStation listing says the game can be played without subtitles because there is no spoken dialogue, while also saying spoken dialogue is fully subtitled. Those statements leave the dialogue and subtitle relationship unclear; check the in-game settings if subtitles are important to you.
PS5 editions and Collector’s Edition contents
The official game site documents physical Standard and Deluxe Editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but says those physical editions are not available for PC. Its Collector’s Edition includes the digital Deluxe content plus a metal Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder model, a physical 80-page art book, a steel case and slipcover, a banner and pilot patches. The announcement establishes the contents, not current retail price or stock; check the exact regional listing before buying.
Who should play it?
- Good fit: Star Wars fans who want vehicle racing, and players who enjoy route decisions, progression and improving over repeated runs.
- Think twice: Players who dislike replaying events, especially if repetitive challenges quickly wear thin.
- Look elsewhere if: Your priority is a deep protagonist or a story-first Star Wars campaign.
- Check before committing: If Podracing Tour or online progression is your main draw, the cited reviews do not establish enough about those experiences on PS5 to make a confident judgment.
Verdict
For PS5 owners looking for a replayable Star Wars racer, Galactic Racer has a clear appeal: fast vehicle competition tied to branching runs, risk and earned improvement. The available PS5 review supports that appeal while also identifying the trade-offs—Field Tests can grow repetitive, and Shade lacks character depth. It is most promising when the racing loop is the reason you are buying, not when you expect a rich story or a one-and-done sequence of events.
