Star Wars: Galactic Racer is not yet available, so a full review would be premature. As of October 3, 2026, the game is scheduled to launch October 6 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. What is established so far is a new Star Wars racing game from a team with Burnout experience—not a Burnout sequel—with campaign and online PvP modes.
What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Developed by Fuse Games and published by Secret Mode, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is set in the Outer Rim after the fall of the Empire. Players follow Shade, a racer pursuing revenge and glory in the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit. The official description frames racing as high-stakes and runs-based. The announced vehicles include landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers. Steam’s listing describes a story campaign and online PvP; the official gameplay materials name Jakku, Ando Prime, Sentinel One, and Lantaana as racing locations. StarWars.com’s gameplay-trailer article identifies the locations and vehicle classes.

The game is scheduled for October 6, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Lucasfilm Games’ reveal announcement and the Steam listing confirm the release date and platforms. This article is therefore a pre-release assessment of the available information, not a review based on playing the released game.
Is it really a Burnout successor?
There is a real connection, but “successor” needs qualification. Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly says Fuse Games’ leaders previously worked at Criterion and were industry leaders on Need for Speed and Burnout. Fuse has also said many members of its team worked on those racing franchises. That background makes Burnout a reasonable point of comparison; it does not make Galactic Racer a sequel or establish that its handling, structure, or feel matches Burnout. The available information supports describing it as a new Star Wars racer made by a team with Burnout experience. Reilly’s comments appear in the official reveal interview.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Whether the game earns the comparison will depend on the finished racing: how its vehicles handle, how races reward skill, and whether the campaign and online competition make repeated runs worthwhile. Those are questions for a review based on the released game, not conclusions that can be drawn from the team’s résumé.
What do the hands-on previews say?
Xbox Wire’s writer reports playing for about an hour across campaign and arcade modes during Summer Game Fest: Play Days. The preview describes the game as challenging and fun, with depth and replayability, and notes that landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders handle differently. These are one writer’s pre-release impressions from that session; they are useful early signals, not a verdict on the full game. Read the Xbox Wire hands-on preview.

At the time Steam was accessed for the available information, its listing had no user reviews. That status is a snapshot, not a prediction of reception. There is not yet a basis here for judging the final game’s performance, race variety, campaign quality, difficulty balance, or online stability.

If you are interested in a Star Wars racer and the announced mix of campaign, arcade racing, and online PvP appeals to you, the confirmed details make Galactic Racer worth watching. If your decision depends on whether it delivers the speed and aggressive racing associated with Burnout, wait for post-launch coverage based on direct play. The available preview offers an encouraging but limited first look; it cannot establish how the full campaign, vehicle roster, or online modes hold up.
The fairest verdict before release is that Star Wars: Galactic Racer has a credible racing-game pedigree and a clear Star Wars setting, but its quality as a Burnout-like racer remains unproven until the finished game can be assessed.
