Star Wars: Galactic Racer pairs a branching, failure-sensitive solo campaign with shorter online tours that build toward a final knockout race. Builds can change within a tour, while selected vehicle upgrades, parts, favors, Racer Style upgrades, and other rewards carry forward. Multiplayer details such as player counts vary by mode and source, so a 12-player listing should not be read as a guarantee for every event.
How multiplayer works
Online play uses a compressed version of the game’s runs-based structure. Before a tour, players choose a Racer Style and tune a vehicle with parts, upgrades, and abilities. The tour then culminates in a knockout event, where the earlier build choices matter. Fuse Games describes this shorter tour format and says victories award XP toward character and customization unlocks. Launch-week reviews add practical detail, but those accounts describe the reviewers’ sessions rather than a permanent service guarantee:
- Creative Bloq reported 12-player drop-in sessions, with bots filling empty slots, and a five-race sequence ending in a Derven Acos decider.
- TechRadar reported 12-player Tours and cross-play during its review sessions.
Xbox’s store listing specifies online multiplayer for 2–12 players and Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. That is the Xbox listing’s overall capability, not proof that every mode supports the full player range. The official story-trailer announcement separately confirms podracer-focused online events, but the reviewed official sources do not state their player cap. For Xbox console players, the current store listing says online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. This requirement is specific to Xbox and should not be generalized to PC or PlayStation.
How campaign tours work
The Galactic Tour is a solo run built around branching event choices. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 hands-on preview describes a route randomized when a tour begins, divided into three acts. Your decisions shape which events and challenges come next.

Failure can have a cost: too many crashes or a failed high-stakes event can end a tour and cost a League Token. But a failed run does not mean every reward disappears; Xbox Wire reports that some Galactic Credits remain. Xbox Wire’s hands-on preview
What changes during a tour
Tour progression is temporary and tactical. You can adjust vehicle stats such as cornering, resilience, Ramjet, and afterburner, then combine parts with different rarities and functions. Parts can also develop faults, making a strong setup something you manage rather than simply accumulate. These in-tour adjustments are distinct from longer-term unlocks. A temporary stat choice or the current tour’s route is not the same thing as permanent vehicle progression or XP toward characters and customization.

- Vehicle stats: You can improve stats permanently for vehicle types.
- Parts pool: Completing a tour opens a larger pool of parts for future builds.
- Favors: Unlocks that can modify the rules of later runs.
- Racer Styles: These can be upgraded between tours.
So the progression model is not “win or lose, everything resets.” Some Galactic Credits can remain after failure, and permanent upgrades and unlocks exist outside the run. The sources do not establish that every piece of gear, every run reward, or the tour state carries over.

Podracing has dedicated online events, and players can also access podracing through Arcade, according to the official story-trailer announcement. Those events are a distinct reason not to assume that the Xbox listing’s 2–12 range, or reviewers’ 12-player Tour observations, applies to every multiplayer format.
