Start with a landspeeder: Lucasfilm describes it as stable, beginner-friendly, and built for drifting through corners. For boost, weigh the speed gain against control—especially on a speeder bike. And because routes branch, learn the alternatives rather than assuming one racing line is always fastest. The guidance below is based on official pre-launch descriptions, not verified final controls or hands-on play.
What beginners should know before racing
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to launch worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to Lucasfilm’s release announcement. That date is still ahead as of October 4, 2026, so final control mappings and in-game tutorials cannot be confirmed here.

The game includes landspeeders, skim speeders, speeder bikes, and podracers. Lucasfilm says vehicle classes have distinct physics, handling, or playstyles, but its public descriptions do not establish a full, like-for-like handling comparison across all four classes. The official gameplay-trailer article also describes branching routes and risk-reward decisions.

Landspeeder: a stable starting point
Lucasfilm’s vehicle guide calls landspeeder handling excellent and stable, describes the craft as durable relative to other vehicles, and says it is made for drifting through corners. Those qualities make it the clearest documented choice for learning how a corner feels and how to recover from it.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Speeder bike: speed with a control trade-off
The same guide describes speeder bikes as fast and agile, but warns that Kinetic Burst temporarily increases speed at the cost of control. In unpracticed hands, that can lead to wide turns. Treat the bike’s burst as a tool for a stretch where you can manage what comes next, not as a boost to use automatically before every corner.
Other classes: don’t assume the same technique transfers
Skim speeders and podracers are confirmed vehicle classes, and the official overview says classes have distinct handling or tactical advantages. The available descriptions do not give enough detail to rank their stability, cornering demands, speed, or durability. Once you try another class, expect its feel to differ and assess it on its own rather than assuming landspeeder advice transfers unchanged.

How to practise drifting through corners
The official vehicle guide supports the landspeeder’s drift-oriented role, but it does not publish a specific drift input, speed threshold, or cornering formula. Use a repeatable practice routine rather than treating an undocumented technique as established game fact:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Begin with the landspeeder. Its documented stability makes it a sensible craft for learning corner approaches.
- Choose a manageable approach speed. If you repeatedly run wide or struggle to recover, try entering more cautiously on the next attempt.
- Change one thing at a time. For example, compare a slightly slower approach with your previous run while keeping your route choice consistent.
- Judge the exit as well as the turn. Note whether you leave the corner pointed where you want to go and can regain control for the next section.
- Repeat the same section when possible. Comparing runs can help distinguish a useful adjustment from a change in route or conditions.
This is a general practice method, not a verified description of the game’s drift system. Check the released game’s tutorial for the actual drift controls and any driving assists.

When to use boosts
Speeder-bike Kinetic Burst
Kinetic Burst temporarily raises a speeder bike’s speed while compromising control, according to Lucasfilm’s vehicle guide. Because the guide warns that turns can become wide, try to use it where you have room to manage the next bend. If a burst repeatedly sends you off the intended path, practise the same section without it or use it at a different point.
Landspeeder ramjet
The vehicle guide says a well-timed ramjet boost can save time for landspeeders. It does not identify an exact timing window, control input, or meter. Use the in-game tutorial to learn how to activate it, then compare its effect on a familiar section instead of assuming that boosting as soon as it is available is optimal.

How to choose a racing line
There is no substantiated universal fastest line in the official material. Lucasfilm confirms branching routes and dynamic risk-reward choices, but does not identify an always-best inside line, outside line, or shortcut. The best route for a particular run therefore depends on what you can keep under control and what the route offers.
- Learn where routes split. Notice which path you take at each branch so you can compare alternatives on later runs.
- Weigh shortcut potential against risk. A shorter-looking option may demand tighter steering or make recovery harder; judge the trade-off by your own runs.
- Prioritise a clean exit. A route that lets you leave a corner in control may suit you better than one that is difficult to hold.
- Compare like with like. When possible, test alternatives using the same vehicle and similar boost choices so you can see what changed.
Where to check the final controls
The official sources available before launch do not document final controller mappings, precise drift inputs, boost timing windows, or a single optimal racing line. After launch, use the in-game tutorial and control settings to confirm the inputs and assist options for your platform and scheme. The Steam listing identifies Fuse Games as developer and Secret Mode as publisher and lists solo and online PvP modes: Steam’s game page. The official release announcement covers the launch platforms; the official website notes physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation’s listing shows its editions. No premium edition is identified as necessary for learning the driving systems.
