There is no proven overall winner. Stable Audio is the best-documented choice here for creating and refining sound effects or music within a DAW workflow. Suno is a documented option for making songs, but commercial use depends on the specific output meeting Suno’s rules and being downloaded through an eligible plan allocation. Udio is the hardest to compare: reporting on its 2025 settlement described a planned service transition, and the sources available for this comparison do not establish its current features, exports, pricing, or license.
Stable Audio vs Suno vs Udio at a glance
The useful distinction is not simply which generator makes the “best” sound. It is what you want to make, how much control you need after generation, how the result fits your production workflow, and whether you can use and export it under terms that suit your project.

| Service | Best-documented fit | Workflow and controls | Commercial-use and export picture |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stable Audio | Sound effects, music, and iterative audio work | Web app with conversational controls, audio-to-audio editing, inpainting, and experimental stem export; Stable Audio 3.0 DAW plugin and API are also described by the company. | Rights depend on applicable terms. Current terms should be checked; detailed commercial-use language in the linked older terms is dated September 12, 2023. Confirm current export and license conditions before a commercial release. |
| Suno | Song creation | Free and paid tiers are listed; the sources used here do not establish a like-for-like comparison of generation quotas, editing controls, or export formats. | Commercial exploitation is conditional on following the terms and obtaining an eligible permitted download within the allocation for the applicable tier. A paid plan alone is not blanket clearance for every output. |
| Udio | Not established by the available current product information | Associated Press reported a service transition after Udio’s 2025 settlement; present-day features and workflow are not established by those reports. | Current availability, downloads, pricing, and licensing are not established here. Verify them directly before choosing it. |

Which one fits the work you want to do?
Choose Stable Audio for iterative sound design and DAW integration
Stable Audio’s product page describes a web app for generating music and sound effects, with audio-to-audio editing and inpainting for changing parts of existing audio. The company also describes experimental stem export, durations from one second up to six minutes, a Stable Audio 3.0 plugin compatible with major DAWs such as Ableton, Logic, and Pro Tools, and an API sold per generation. Those details make it the clearest documented match for a creator who wants to shape audio iteratively or bring generation into an existing production setup. They are product descriptions, not independent evidence that its output sounds better than a competitor’s. See Stable Audio’s product page for current details.

Choose Suno when the goal is song creation
Suno is a documented option for making songs. Before relying on a particular track for a release, client project, or other commercial use, check the current terms and whether that exact output was obtained through the eligible download process for your tier. Suno’s terms of service, download policy, and paid-subscription rights guidance are the relevant starting points.
Treat Udio as a verify-first option
Associated Press reported in October 2025 that Udio settled with Universal Music and entered licensing arrangements while planning a new AI music subscription service. AP reported in November 2025 that users had a 48-hour window to download existing tracks as Udio shifted its model. That history is a reason not to rely on older comparisons for Udio’s current features, exports, availability, or rights; it does not establish what the service offers now. Read the October 2025 report and November 2025 report as transition coverage, not a current product specification.

What to check before using generated music commercially
Stable Audio: confirm which terms apply to your account and use
Stable Audio’s current terms page gives an effective date of July 31, 2025. A separate, detailed terms page dated September 12, 2023 says Basic users may use outputs for non-commercial projects, while Pro users may use them for specified commercial projects, commercial music releases, and certain commercial products. That older page also sets an enterprise-license threshold for a commercial product incorporating generated content that exceeds 100,000 monthly active users. Because those detailed provisions are from 2023, do not treat them as a definitive statement of today’s rights: check the current terms and any policies they incorporate, and consult the dated detailed terms only with its date in mind.

Suno: check the track’s download eligibility, not just your subscription
Suno’s terms tie commercial exploitation to compliance with its service rules and obtaining a permitted download within the download allocation for the applicable tier. The terms say rights for such a download persist despite later changes to the allotment or pricing and after subscription expiry or cancellation. That is narrower than assuming that every track made while paying is cleared for commercial use. Check the current terms and download policy for the output and plan in question.

Udio: do not assume old download or license rules still apply
The 2025 AP reports describe a transition, not a confirmed present-day license or export policy. The sources cited here do not establish Udio’s current terms or what rights apply to existing or newly generated tracks. Verify the live Udio product and terms before committing work or distributing audio.

- Generation: Check the current allowance and whether it covers your expected volume. Suno lists free and paid options, but prices and quotas can change; no stable numeric price comparison is established here.
- Editing: If revising sections, inpainting, or working from supplied audio matters, confirm the exact controls available in the current plan. Stable Audio describes audio-to-audio editing and inpainting on its product page.
- Production workflow: Decide whether a web app is enough or whether DAW integration or API access matters. Stable Audio documents all three routes; do not assume the other services provide equivalent options.
- Export: Confirm whether downloads are available, their formats and quotas, and whether stems or other production-ready files are included. The cited material describes Stable Audio stem export as experimental; current export terms for all services should be checked directly.
- Rights: Match the policy to the actual use—personal listening, client work, commercial release, or an incorporated product—and verify the specific output’s eligibility.
- Service status: For Udio, establish that the service, features, and download route you need are currently available before counting it as an equivalent option.
Verdict: the best choice depends on the job
For documented sound-design controls and a path into an existing DAW, Stable Audio is the strongest fit in this comparison. For song creation, Suno is a relevant option, provided you verify the track’s commercial-use eligibility and download status. Udio should remain a conditional choice until its current service, export rules, and terms are verified. None of the cited evidence establishes an overall winner on audio quality.
