You can get ghosts, autumn leaves and eerie stories without choosing a conventional horror game. These picks range from cozy supernatural routines to cartoon ghost-busting and more threatening suspense—so use the intensity notes to find the right kind of spooky for you.
How to choose a spooky game without committing to horror
Halloween atmosphere and horror intensity are different things. Nintendo’s US Halloween collection makes that distinction visible: it groups some games as “Creepy cozy,” separately from “Paranormal activities” and “Try to survive.” Nintendo describes the cozy group as games that let you “Chill out while you thrill out with cozy games wrapped in eerie atmosphere.” That’s a retailer’s discovery label, not a promise that every game will feel gentle to every player.

Cozy supernatural games for a gentler Halloween mood
Cozy Grove
Cozy Grove appears in Nintendo’s “Creepy cozy” collection. It’s a natural starting point if you want a supernatural seasonal mood rather than a horror-first recommendation. The official collection establishes its fit for the eerie-atmosphere grouping, but does not provide a detailed scare assessment.

- Elevated Asymmetrical Multiplayer: Cooperate with up to four players as the Heroes of Haddonfield and face off against the one and only Michael Myers in unpredictable multiplayer matches unfolding within a living, breathing game world.
Wytchwood
Nintendo also includes Wytchwood in that grouping. Its place there makes it a candidate for players drawn to witchy, storybook Halloween imagery; the collection itself does not establish how frightening every scene may feel.
Story-led adventures with an eerie or autumnal feel
Beacon Pines
Beacon Pines is another Nintendo “Creepy cozy” pick. Consider it for a narrative-led option with an eerie atmosphere, rather than for ghost-busting or a conventional survival-horror experience. Nintendo’s grouping is a useful starting point, not an individual content rating.

Night in the Woods
Nintendo lists Night in the Woods in the same seasonal collection. It suits readers looking for an atmospheric, story-centered Halloween-season game; the collection’s label alone cannot tell you whether its tone or themes will suit you personally.

OXENFREE is included in Nintendo’s “Creepy cozy” selection, though its paranormal-mystery appeal can feel more unsettling than the label suggests. If you are especially sensitive to supernatural tension, check the game’s full content information before choosing it; the collection does not guarantee a scare-free experience.

Cartoon ghosts and haunted-house comedy
Luigi’s Mansion 3
For a comic haunted-house adventure, Common Sense Media includes Luigi’s Mansion 3 in its “Scary Games (But Not TOO Scary!)” recommendations and gives it an age recommendation of 8+. It describes a cartoonish haunted-house game with a smart, brave hero. That age guidance belongs to Common Sense Media; it is not a universal suitability judgment or a substitute for checking the full review and your local rating.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
Common Sense Media also recommends Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD for ages 8+ and notes cartoon ghosts and mild jump scares. That makes it worth considering if you want ghostly comedy and can tolerate occasional startling moments. “Mild” is a reviewer’s description, not a guarantee about how any individual player will react.
Rank #4
- Includes eight chilling effects on one DVD with multiple display modes; WANDERING HORDE, UNEXPECTED GUEST, BROKEN BARRICADES and ZOMBIE FEAST
- PLASTER DISASTER: Ravenous zombies punch and claw their way through a plaster wall
- ZOMBIE SHADOWS: Shadowy clusters of zombies loom behind frosted glass
- Includes four chilling effects on one DVD; Each effect can feature any of the three characters: the seductive debutante, the stern-featured gentleman or the creepy little girl
A more threatening boundary case: Little Nightmares Complete Edition
This is the pick to approach cautiously if your goal is a low-intensity Halloween game. Nintendo describes the Nintendo Switch edition as a “dark whimsical tale” confronting childhood fears and a “spooky puzzle platformer,” in which the player hides and sneaks to avoid monstrous residents. Nintendo lists Blood and Violence content descriptors and single-system play for one player. Its threatening imagery and content descriptors put it well beyond a cozy supernatural routine, even though it is presented as a puzzle-platformer.
The official product page verifies a Nintendo Switch edition of Little Nightmares Complete Edition; it does not establish current physical stock or the format of every other game mentioned here. Check the listing for your region and edition before buying.

Sources and checking a game before you play
- Nintendo’s Halloween collection groups seasonal games under “Creepy cozy,” “Paranormal activities” and “Try to survive.” Its assortment and regional availability can change.
- Nintendo’s Little Nightmares Complete Edition product page gives the publisher’s description, content descriptors and details for the Nintendo Switch edition.
- Common Sense Media’s “Scary Games (But Not TOO Scary!)” was last updated September 22, 2026. Read the full entries rather than relying on an age recommendation alone.
- Nintendo’s cozy-games category is another official discovery page, but a cozy category label does not establish that a game is suitable for every player.
Before buying, check the exact platform, edition and local listing. Store assortments, stock and regional formats can change, and a Nintendo Switch category or collection does not establish that every title has a physical cartridge edition.
