To split a restaurant bill with Apple Wallet in iOS 27, open Apple Cash’s Split Bill action from Messages, Wallet, Camera, or Photos. Scan a paper receipt or choose an image, select your items, adjust shared dishes, add a tip if needed, then review and send a payment or request through Apple Cash. Apple says the calculation includes your share of tax and tip.
What Apple Wallet’s Split Bill does
Split Bill uses a receipt or receipt image to help calculate what you owe, then settles that amount between diners through Apple Cash. It does not divide the restaurant’s original card charge at the point of sale: it is for reimbursing someone or requesting money after the bill is paid.

You can start from Messages, Wallet, Camera, Photos, or a screenshot containing a receipt. You choose the items for your share, adjust quantities for shared items, and can add a tip before sending a payment or request.
How to split the bill
- Open Split Bill. In Messages, open a conversation, tap the plus button, choose Apple Cash, then tap Split Bill. In Wallet, open the Apple Cash card, tap Send or Request, select a person, and tap Split Bill. You can also start from Camera or open a receipt image in Photos; a receipt screenshot can be used as well.
- Capture or select the receipt. Take a picture of the paper receipt or choose an existing image. Apple Support also describes invoking Split Bill with Apple Cash through the Camera app’s Siri control or Camera Control.
- Choose the diners. Select the conversation or add people to it. If you start from Wallet, choose a person.
- Select your items. Tap the receipt items you owe for. For a shared dish, use the minus control to divide its cost among multiple people; use the plus control to increase the quantity.
- Review tip and total. Add a tip if appropriate and check the amount. Apple says the calculation includes your share of tax and tip.
- Send or pay. Send a request for reimbursement or pay an existing request. Confirm the payment with your device’s side button and Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. In a group message, the recipient can choose whom to pay.
How to track a request
Open the Apple Cash card in Wallet and view Requests to see who has paid and how much you have received. Requests can remain open for up to 30 days unless they are paid or marked complete sooner, according to Apple Support.

What you need, and where it works
- Receipt scanning requires Apple Intelligence and Siri enabled, Apple Cash set up, and an eligible Apple device running the latest software. Apple’s referenced instructions do not give a specific iPhone model list, so check Apple’s current compatibility guidance for your device.
- Apple Cash person-to-person service is available in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. In general, users must be at least 18 and U.S. residents. Apple describes a Family setup for users under 18, with some feature limitations.

If receipt scanning is unavailable
You can still send or request a specified amount through Apple Cash in a group Messages conversation and review group activity in Wallet. The receipt-based item selection is optional; the standard Apple Cash payment or request is an alternative when scanning is unavailable.
