Spellbook of Skill is an early-stage, open-source collection of development guides from Domenico Tenace, designed to organize practical learning by category and difficulty. Its intended guide format includes a learning objective, prerequisites, a working code example, and troubleshooting. The project starts with Content Creation; its broader catalog is described as a plan, not a finished course library.

What Spellbook of Skill is—and how it relates to Spellbook of Prompt

Tenace presents Spellbook of Skill as a companion to Spellbook of Prompt. In his framing, Spellbook of Prompt helps users decide what to ask, while Spellbook of Skill focuses on the skills needed to carry out development work. That is the creator’s description of the relationship, not an independent comparison.

The new project is intended as a curated collection of development skills, tutorials, and guides, with material ranging from fundamentals to advanced topics. Its stated aim is practical learning rather than a catalog of prompts.

How the guides are intended to work

Tenace describes a consistent guide structure: a clear learning objective, prerequisites, a complete code example, and a troubleshooting section. Concepts are meant to be language- and framework-agnostic where that makes sense. The goal is to help readers understand what they are trying to learn, what they need beforehand, and how to work through likely problems.

These are the project’s design intentions as described in the September 21, 2026 announcement; they should not be read as an independent audit of every guide or as evidence of learning outcomes.

What is available and what is planned

At announcement, Content Creation was the starting category. Tenace described five additional categories as future plans, rather than established parts of a complete library:

  • Coding and development workflows
  • DevOps and deployment
  • System design and architecture
  • Design and creative development
  • Career and professional growth

The creator characterizes the project as early and says its content library needs to grow. As he put it, “It’s early. I’d rather be upfront about that than oversell it.” Readers should treat the announcement as an introduction to a developing resource, not a claim that it already covers development comprehensively.

How the project was built

Tenace reports that he used OpenCode through OpenRouter with DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 to create the project structure, site configuration, content schema, and initial category setup. He says the documentation site uses Astro with Starlight. These are the creator’s implementation claims; they do not establish independent findings about code quality, performance, or cost.

Contributing a guide

The project is described as MIT-licensed and open to contributions. The announcement points readers to a Netlify-hosted documentation site and outlines a local workflow using Git and pnpm. Repository and deployment details can change, so check the project’s own current instructions before following setup steps.

  1. Search existing guides first to avoid duplicating material.
  2. Add or update a guide in an appropriate category. Include a title, description, and at least one complete, working example, along with the learning objective, prerequisites, and troubleshooting guidance.
  3. Keep the guide concise and actionable. Do not include real secrets or sensitive data.
  4. Submit a pull request with a short summary of the change.

The announcement does not establish the current deployment status or the present contents of the repository. For the project’s live instructions, visit Spellbook of Skill; for its publication-time account and contribution guidance, see Tenace’s September 21, 2026 announcement.

Who may find it useful

Spellbook of Skill may appeal to developers who prefer practical, structured guides and to contributors who want to document a skill clearly. Its promise depends on the quality and breadth of guides as the library grows. At announcement, the strongest reason to explore it is its proposed format and open contribution model—not a demonstrated breadth of coverage.
