There is no single “most generous” speech-to-text API limit: concurrent live streams, requests per minute, and batch-job capacity measure different things. Choose by matching the limit’s operation and scope to your peak workload, then check whether it can be raised, whether your audio fits, and what the workload will cost. The published figures below are official provider limits, not a head-to-head performance test; documentation and account-specific quotas can change.
What “generous rate limits” actually means
A rate limit controls how often an API accepts requests; a concurrency limit controls how many requests or sessions can be active at once. A service can allow many long-running streams but relatively few new requests per minute. Batch transcription has its own job and request limits, and those limits may be shared with other features. Treat each quota as a constraint on a particular operation—not as a universal measure of throughput.

Scope matters just as much as the number. A limit may apply per project, account, region, endpoint, model, or plan. Extra API keys do not necessarily add capacity, and figures for one region or tier may not apply to another. The examples below reflect official documentation checked on October 4, 2026; verify the current limit for your account, operation, region, and model before building to it.
How the published limits compare
These providers publish different kinds of limits. Read the operation, scope, and qualification in each cell before comparing the numbers.

| Provider | Published limit examples | Scope and adjustability | Audio or mode constraints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Speech-to-Text | Per region: 100 resource requests per 60 seconds; 150 operation requests per 60 seconds; 300 synchronous recognition requests per 60 seconds; and 150 batch recognition requests per 60 seconds. Streaming: 300 concurrent sessions and 3,000 requests per minute across concurrent sessions. | Quota applies per developer project and is shared across applications and IP addresses using that project. Google says quota increases may be requested; approval and capacity are not guaranteed. | Streaming sessions can remain open for up to five minutes, with audio sent at approximately real-time speed. Batch files can be up to eight hours; each request currently supports up to five files, a ceiling the documentation says is expected to reduce to one. Synchronous audio is limited to 10 MB or one minute, whichever comes first. Google quota documentation. |
| Deepgram | The listed self-serve Pay as You Go plan allows up to 150 concurrent streaming requests for Flux STT and up to 150 for Nova-3, plus up to 50 concurrent prerecorded Nova-3 requests. | Limits apply per project, not per account or API key. Deepgram says extra self-serve projects do not add concurrency and that distributing traffic across projects to bypass limits violates its terms. Higher concurrency is a Growth or Enterprise discussion; these published ceilings are not a promise of capacity for every account. Figures are listed across North America, Europe, Australia, and India tables. If add-on services share a call, the lower applicable service limit governs. | Streaming and prerecorded figures are separate; do not treat the streaming ceiling as a batch-job limit. Deepgram API rate limits. |
| Microsoft Azure Speech | Standard S0 defaults to 100 concurrent real-time requests for the base model endpoint and 100 for a custom endpoint. Free F0 allows one concurrent request. Speech-to-text and speech translation share the real-time concurrent-request limit. | Microsoft says the Standard real-time limit is adjustable. Batch transcription has a shared request-rate quota that can be increased through its fast-transcription process; other batch limits cannot be adjusted. The cited documentation summary does not establish a numerical batch limit. | Real-time concurrency is not a batch-job ceiling. Confirm the chosen resource tier and operation. Azure Speech quotas and limits. |
| Amazon Transcribe | For standard transcription in a supported Region: 25 concurrent streams (HTTP/2 and WebSocket combined) and 250 concurrent transcription jobs. | These are account-and-region service quotas, both marked adjustable in AWS’s General Reference. Separate values apply to specialized medical and analytics operations, so check the quota for the operation you intend to use. | Supports real-time streaming and batch transcription from audio in S3. Confirm regional availability and the exact quota for the selected operation and Region. AWS endpoints and quotas; Amazon Transcribe overview. |
The counts describe documented service limits, not measured throughput or guaranteed service-level performance. Google’s streaming request rate, for example, is distinct from its concurrent-session cap; neither number alone predicts how quickly a particular workload will finish.
Which limit should you compare for your workload?
For live transcription
Estimate both peak simultaneous sessions and how quickly new sessions start. A workload with 200 calls active at once has a different need from one that starts 200 short sessions in a minute. Also account for session lifetime: Google documents a five-minute streaming-session maximum, so a longer stream needs a design for rotation or segmentation. Its audio must arrive at approximately real-time speed. Other providers’ session-duration constraints should be checked in their current operation-specific documentation.

For asynchronous or batch transcription
Compare concurrent jobs, job-launch request rates, file-size and duration constraints, and storage requirements separately. Google documents up to eight hours per batch file, but a request currently supports up to five files and the documented ceiling is expected to reduce to one. Do not build a future workflow around the current file count without confirming the current documentation. Azure’s adjustable shared batch request-rate quota does not imply that its other batch limits are adjustable.
For mixed workloads
Identify quotas shared across modes or features. Azure speech-to-text and speech translation share the real-time concurrent-request limit. Deepgram says the lower applicable service limit governs when add-on services share a call. A quota consumed by one operation may therefore reduce headroom for another.

How to size and operate within a quota
- Describe the peak, not just the average. Record expected peak live sessions, new sessions per minute, batch jobs launched per hour, typical and maximum audio duration, channel count, and burst shape.
- Map every figure to its boundary. Write down the operation, plan or tier, project or account, region, model or endpoint, and any shared quota. Do not assume a second key or project increases capacity.
- Check input constraints independently. Confirm duration, file size, channel support, stream lifetime, and required storage location. A request-rate allowance is not useful if an individual recording cannot be submitted as planned.
- Use bounded concurrency and backpressure. Queue work rather than launching requests without a ceiling. For retryable throttling, use exponential backoff with jitter; monitor throttles, latency, and quota usage so retries do not amplify a traffic spike.
- Treat quota increases as optional headroom. Apply through the provider’s documented process where available, but do not use a pending or hoped-for increase as a substitute for queueing and capacity controls.
- Recheck before launch. Reopen the official quota documentation and inspect live account or console limits for the intended region and operation. Published values can change and may not match every account.
Compare product fit and cost, not just capacity
A high limit has little value if the API does not support the languages, diarization, vocabulary adaptation, channel handling, redaction, or specialized medical or call features your application needs. The cited quota pages do not establish a universal winner for recognition accuracy or latency. Test representative recordings from your actual speakers, microphones, noise conditions, vocabulary, and intended processing regions, measuring end-to-end latency as well as transcription quality.
Normalize expected spend against your real workload: audio hours, channels, model, features, batch method, and any volume discount. Google’s pricing page lists a monthly allowance of 60 minutes per account for the listed standard models. For the first listed tier in its standard V2 model table, it gives $0.024 per minute without data logging and $0.016 per minute with data logging; other consumption columns show lower prices. Pricing depends on the consumption model and usage details, and each audio channel is billed separately. Dynamic batch is a lower-urgency discounted option. Confirm eligibility and the applicable consumption model on Google Cloud’s Speech-to-Text pricing page before using those figures for a budget. The other cited provider sources here do not establish directly comparable prices.

How to decide which API is best for high-volume transcription
There is not enough workload information to name one best provider or rank these services by overall generosity. A useful shortlist begins with the bottleneck that would actually stop your system: live concurrency, new-session rate, batch-job capacity, input constraints, or a shared quota. Then eliminate providers that do not meet your region, feature, language, latency, or compliance needs; verify whether a quota increase is possible; and compare cost using representative audio and your expected channels and volume. Public quota tables alone cannot settle quality, latency, or available production capacity.
