Spark documents the provider as the registry and proxy administrator, and the Pool as an upgradeable proxy whose implementation pointer can be changed through that provider. That architecture makes address refresh, market identification, and deployment-specific checks central to upgrade compatibility.
How SparkLend Pool upgrades affect integrations
Spark describes PoolAddressesProvider as the registry for protocol contract addresses and configurations. It also serves as a proxy factory and administrator, managing proxy implementations and controlling who can update addresses and configuration. Spark’s PoolAddressesProvider documentation recommends obtaining the Pool address from the provider whenever the contract is needed.

The Pool is the main entry point for lending operations. Spark documents it as deployed behind an InitializableImmutableAdminUpgradeabilityProxy administered by the provider. An upgrade changes the implementation pointer on the provider; integrations that depend on a previously resolved address or on assumptions about the implementation may therefore need to adapt. The documented mechanism does not establish that every integration caches an address or that a particular upgrade has occurred.

What to check in an integration review
Review the integration against its actual target network and market, not just a protocol name or a remembered deployment address.
- Address resolution: Identify whether the integration queries the correct provider for the target market, and how often it refreshes or caches the returned Pool address.
- Network and market selection: Verify chain ID, market identifier, provider address, and reserve configuration for the intended deployment.
- Proxy and implementation assumptions: Confirm which address is the proxy, how the implementation is resolved, and whether the integration incorrectly treats the implementation as a permanent endpoint.
- Interfaces and behavior: Check the ABI and source revision the integration uses, including expected events, errors, and permission behavior. Shared code lineage alone does not establish that all deployed behavior is identical.
- Upgrade response: Test address refresh and integration behavior when the provider’s implementation pointer changes. Include monitoring and operational procedures for updating dependent systems where needed.
These are review recommendations derived from Spark’s documented registry and proxy arrangement; they are not claims about the behavior of every existing integration.

Why SparkLend is not interchangeable with upstream Aave by assumption
Spark’s repository describes its codebase as containing Aave V3 protocol source code and market configuration, establishing a codebase lineage rather than deployment identity. A ChainSecurity SparkLend deployment verification report records differences between the Spark and Aave Ethereum deployments, including ownership and market identity. Those details are deployment-specific and should be checked against the relevant contracts and state.
Aave’s PoolAddressesProvider documentation describes a similar registry and proxy-administration model and likewise recommends retrieving the Pool through its provider. Similar architecture does not prove that the two deployments share addresses, configuration, ownership, or upgrade authority. For a concrete comparison, check both deployments at a named block and compare:

A historical Aave governance post about the V3 introduction described V3 as a separate codebase incompatible with V2 contracts and discussed a retro-compatible V3 version as a separate possibility. That historical statement concerns the V2-to-V3 transition; it does not determine compatibility for every later SparkLend implementation update. See Aave governance’s V3 introduction post.
Network support is time-sensitive
Spark’s product page currently says SparkLend is supported on Ethereum and that the Gnosis Chain deployment was fully deprecated in September 2026, while suppliers can still withdraw assets. This status can change; check Spark’s current SparkLend page before relying on a network or taking action.

Verifying a specific upgrade or compatibility claim
The cited architecture documentation does not establish the current implementation address at a particular block or provide a complete chronology of governance-executed upgrades. To assess a specific claim, pin the network and block, read the provider’s implementation pointer, identify the executed governance action and its authority, and inspect the exact source revision and interface used by the integration. Confirm those findings against the target deployment rather than inferring them from shared code or documentation alone.
