SpaceX completed three launches in less than 13 hours on October 1, 2026: NASA’s Crew-13 astronaut flight, the Transporter-18 rideshare, and the classified NROL-97 national-security mission. Two used Falcon 9; the third used Falcon Heavy. Together, the flights delivered a crew toward the International Space Station, deployed 130 rideshare payloads, and carried a government payload whose details remain classified.
What were the three SpaceX launches?
| Mission | Rocket and launch site | Purpose and public details | Recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crew-13 | Falcon 9; Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida | Dragon crew flight to the International Space Station for a science expedition | Falcon 9 booster returned to its launch site |
| Transporter-18 | Falcon 9; Vandenberg Space Force Base, California | Rideshare mission that deployed 130 payloads into a polar Sun-synchronous orbit | Falcon 9 booster returned to its launch site |
| NROL-97 | Falcon Heavy; Kennedy Space Center, Florida | National Reconnaissance Office mission carrying a classified payload | Both Falcon Heavy side boosters landed at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station |
Ars Technica reported the less-than-13-hour sequence and the Transporter-18 payload count in its October 2 account. SpaceX’s launch listing records Transporter-18 as an October 1 Falcon 9 mission from SLC-4E in California.

What did SpaceX launch on October 1?
Crew-13: astronauts headed to the ISS
NASA says a Falcon 9 carrying the Dragon spacecraft launched Crew-13 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 11:10 a.m. EDT on October 1. The four-person crew was NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov. NASA described the destination as a science expedition aboard the International Space Station. Dragon later docked with the station, according to Ars Technica’s event report. See NASA’s Crew-13 release for the launch and crew details.
Transporter-18: a 130-payload rideshare
Transporter-18 was the second Falcon 9 flight in the sequence. It launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base and deployed 130 payloads into a polar Sun-synchronous orbit, according to Ars Technica. A rideshare groups payloads from multiple customers on one launch; the reported total gives the scale of this mission, not a description of each payload.

NROL-97: the classified Falcon Heavy mission
The final flight was NROL-97 for the National Reconnaissance Office, launched on Falcon Heavy from Kennedy Space Center at 11:54 p.m. EDT on October 1 (03:54 UTC on October 2). Space.com described it as the first Falcon Heavy mission for the NRO. The payload is classified, so public reporting does not establish its design, capabilities, or exact destination. Space.com’s report identifies the mission and the limits of what is publicly known.
How many boosters landed?
Four boosters landed across the three launches, according to Ars Technica’s October 2 report: one Falcon 9 booster returned in Florida, another in California, and Falcon Heavy’s two side boosters landed at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

Booster recovery is a separate outcome from the payload mission. A landing reports what happened to the reusable hardware after launch; it does not, by itself, establish whether a payload reached its intended orbit or completed its mission.

Why the sequence matters
The three flights show how one launch provider can support sharply different jobs in a compressed period: a crewed NASA mission using Dragon, a multi-customer commercial rideshare, and a classified government flight on the three-core Falcon Heavy. The flights also involved different launch locations and orbit or destination requirements. This account describes the cadence reported for October 1; it does not establish a launch record.
