The S&P/BYMA Argentina General Construction Index tracks eligible companies in the broader S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index that fall into specified construction-related industries. It is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization and calculated in Argentine pesos (ARS). S&P Dow Jones Indices’ September 2026 snapshot reports six constituents, with the largest representing 82.5% of the index—an important limitation for anyone using it as a broad construction-sector or market benchmark.
What does the S&P/BYMA Construction Index measure?
The index selects construction-related companies from the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index. It is therefore a narrow sector subset, not a census of every construction business in Argentina. BYMA describes the benchmark as measuring the performance of shares in the General Index that belong to construction materials and products, construction and engineering, homebuilding, and related sectors. BYMA’s market-data page presents indices as tools for measuring and assessing financial instruments.

The S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index supplies the starting universe: eligible domestic stocks listed on BYMA that satisfy its trading-frequency rule. The Construction Index then selects companies according to their Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) sub-industry classification. The S&P/BYMA methodology specifies these sub-industries:

- Construction Materials
- Forest Products
- Building Products

- Homebuilding
Because eligibility depends on GICS classification, a company reclassified into or out of one of these sub-industries can move between sector indices. Index maintenance, corporate-action treatment, and rebalancing follow the rules for the underlying General Index.

How many constituents are in it, and how concentrated is it?
S&P Dow Jones Indices’ September 2026 page snapshot reports six constituents. It also reports that the largest constituent accounts for 82.5% of the index and that the top ten account for 100%. Since the index has only six reported members, the top-ten figure simply covers all constituents; it does not imply that the index holds ten companies. See the official index profile for its snapshot statistics.
The official page text available for that snapshot does not expose the six company names or their individual weights. Check S&P DJI’s current constituent export or factsheet table before relying on a holdings list: membership and weights can change. The snapshot’s dominant single-company weight also means index movements may be driven heavily by one constituent rather than by a broad cross-section of construction-related businesses.

Is the index measured in pesos or dollars?
The official profile lists Argentine pesos (ARS) as the calculation currency. The reviewed sources do not establish a USD-denominated version, so do not treat the index as dollar-measured. A comparison with a dollar-valued benchmark or investment return can reflect currency movements as well as share-price changes.
What do the price-return and total-return versions mean?
The methodology distinguishes return series. A price-return series does not adjust for regular cash dividends. A gross total-return series reinvests regular cash dividends at the ex-date close and makes no withholding-tax deduction. The methodology lists Bloomberg identifiers SPBYCAP for price return and SPBYCAT for total return.

For a meaningful performance comparison, match both the currency and the return convention. Comparing an ARS price-return series with a USD total-return series mixes differences in exchange rates and dividend treatment with the underlying market performance.
How old is the index’s performance history?
S&P DJI lists October 7, 2019 as the index launch date and January 11, 2019 as the date of its first value. Data before launch are hypothetical back-tested results, not live index performance. A chart that reaches back before October 2019 should identify that earlier segment as back-tested rather than implying the benchmark was then operating or investable.

What are the benchmark’s main limitations?
- Concentration: The September 2026 snapshot has six constituents, and one represents 82.5% of the index.
- Narrow coverage: It includes eligible members of the General Index in specified GICS sub-industries, not every Argentine construction company.
- Currency exposure: The reported calculation currency is ARS; the reviewed official sources do not establish a USD-denominated version.
- Return-series differences: Price return and gross total return treat dividends differently, so the series must be identified when comparing performance.
- Back-tested early history: Values before the October 2019 launch date are hypothetical, according to S&P DJI.
S&P DJI lists annual rebalancing in March. The benchmark can be useful for tracking the performance of its defined, listed-company segment, but its concentration, narrow eligibility rules, and ARS calculation currency limit its use as a proxy for the full Argentine equity market or for an individual investor’s realized return.
