There is no single IR profile that works for every soundbar. To find the right setup, identify the exact soundbar and remote models, then check each manufacturer’s instructions: one remote may require a device code, while some soundbars learn commands from another remote. If both devices support HDMI-CEC, you may be able to control basic functions without an IR profile.
First, identify what you mean by “IR profile”
“How do I find the IR profile for my soundbar?” can mean either finding a code to enter into a TV, streaming-device, cable or universal remote, or teaching the soundbar commands from an existing infrared remote. These are different setup methods. Which one applies depends on both devices.

- Code entry: The controlling remote sends a code associated with the soundbar. The remote’s manufacturer determines which brands and codes its remote supports and how to enter them.
- IR learning: The soundbar enters a learning mode and records commands transmitted by another IR remote. The soundbar’s model-specific instructions determine whether this is supported and how to do it.
How to find the right soundbar IR setup
- Record both model numbers. Find the soundbar’s full model number and the controlling remote’s manufacturer and model. Note whether the remote belongs to a TV, streaming device, cable box or universal remote.
- Search the soundbar maker’s official support page and manual. Look for terms such as “IR code,” “remote control,” “universal remote” and “IR learning.” Some manufacturers publish codes for selected models; others explain how to teach the soundbar commands. A code listed for a different model or command is not a reliable substitute.
- Check the remote maker’s setup guide. Follow its instructions for device setup, entering a code or searching its supported code list. A code published by the soundbar maker does not guarantee that a particular remote supports it.
- If the soundbar supports learning, follow that exact model’s procedure. Use the specified buttons and command sequence, and pay attention to indicator feedback. Do not assume another model uses the same buttons or lights.
- Test the commands you need. Check volume, mute and power individually; support for one function does not establish support for every function.
What the model-specific examples show
JBL Cinema SB250: learning commands from a TV remote
JBL’s instructions for the Cinema SB250 describe entering learning mode with the soundbar’s Surround button, then sending volume up, volume down, mute and power commands from a TV remote. The instructions use LED feedback and explain how to exit learning mode. This is an example for the Cinema SB250, not a general procedure for JBL soundbars or other brands. The Citation Multibeam 1100 owner’s manual describes HDMI-CEC control of volume, mute and power/standby when the feature is supported and enabled. It also describes “Universal IR Learning” for learning some commands from an infrared TV remote when the TV does not support CEC. Bose Smart Soundbar 700: universal IR remote control
Bose says the Smart Soundbar 700 can be controlled by a universal remote that sends IR commands without changing soundbar settings, and advises keeping the IR sensor locations clear. Teufel: codes for selected products
Teufel publishes codes for certain products. Use a code only when the listing matches your exact model and the command you need; the remote still needs to support that code. Teufel also notes that replacement remotes for some older products may no longer be in stock and lists a universal remote for specified product families. Teufel IR code support.

Can you control the soundbar without an IR code?
Possibly. If the TV and soundbar both support HDMI-CEC and are connected over HDMI, enabling CEC may allow functions such as volume, mute or power control. The available functions and the name of the setting vary by device, so consult both manuals for the connection and menu steps. CEC is not an IR profile and may not offer the same functions as an IR remote setup.
Troubleshoot a remote that does not work
Check the signal path before changing codes
A soundbar placed in front of a TV can block the TV’s infrared receiver, making a working remote seem unresponsive. Confirm that the remote is aimed at the receiver it is meant to control and that the receiver has a clear path. Roku recommends moving devices so the TV’s receiver is not obstructed. Use an IR repeater only for an obstruction problem
An IR repeater relays a signal when receiver placement or line of sight is the obstacle; it does not identify a soundbar code or make an unsupported remote compatible. If the original soundbar remote is missing
Check the soundbar manufacturer’s support page for a replacement compatible with the exact model, or ask the manufacturer or an authorized seller. Availability can vary with product age; Teufel notes that replacements for some older models may no longer be in stock. A universal remote is another possibility only if its supported codes match the soundbar or the soundbar can learn its commands.
