If your soundbar keeps losing audio, first check whether it happens on every source or only one. Bluetooth-only dropouts point to pairing, distance, obstacles, or wireless interference; dropouts on TV audio through HDMI ARC/eARC call for checks of compatibility, ports, cable, settings, and firmware. Test one source at a time so you can narrow down the problem before changing settings or replacing equipment.
Find out what is actually cutting out
Note whether the soundbar itself goes silent, or whether only a wireless subwoofer or rear speakers lose sound. Test TV audio, a device connected directly to the soundbar, Bluetooth, and any built-in streaming source separately. Watch whether the soundbar display or selected input changes when audio disappears.

If only one source fails, focus on that source and its connection. If several inputs cut out, continue through the connection, settings, and isolation checks below rather than assuming Bluetooth interference is responsible. LG recommends comparing Bluetooth playback with TV audio over HDMI ARC and another connected source; Samsung also recommends testing the source, device, and port to help distinguish a TV-side problem from a soundbar-side one. LG’s troubleshooting guidance and Samsung’s soundbar troubleshooting guide describe these comparisons.
If sound cuts out only on Bluetooth
Check the selected output and pairing
Confirm the soundbar is paired with the intended phone, tablet, or computer, and select it as that device’s audio output. If the device is sending sound to its own speaker or another paired accessory, the soundbar connection may appear intermittent even though the soundbar is working.

Reduce distance and wireless obstacles
Move the connected device closer to the soundbar and remove obstacles between them where practical. Keep the soundbar at least 3 feet (1 m) from a Wi-Fi router or other wireless devices, as LG recommends. Samsung also cautions that a nearby wireless router can affect Bluetooth speaker quality. This is manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee that distance or interference is the cause. See LG’s Bluetooth dropout steps and Samsung Philippines’ connection guidance.
If TV audio cuts out through HDMI ARC or eARC
Confirm that both devices support the connection
The TV and soundbar must both support the relevant ARC or eARC feature. Connect the TV port labeled ARC/eARC to the soundbar port labeled HDMI OUT ARC/eARC; an ordinary HDMI port may not provide the audio-return function. If only one device supports ARC/eARC, Sony recommends using an optical or other audio connection supported by both devices instead. Check the manuals for the exact port and connection requirements. Sony’s ARC/eARC troubleshooting instructions explain this compatibility check.

Inspect the HDMI cable
Make sure the cable is firmly seated at both ends and meets the requirements in the TV and soundbar manuals. Samsung recommends a certified cable and suggests trying another cable if the ARC source does not switch correctly. Sony recommends a new or known-working high-speed cable, advises avoiding long cables, adapters, and extenders, and specifies a Premium HDMI cable for eARC. These are connection checks—not proof that a new cable will fix every dropout. See Samsung’s troubleshooting guide, Sony’s instructions, and Samsung Philippines’ guide.
Verify audio output, soundbar input, and HDMI control
On the TV, set audio output to the connected audio system or soundbar, using the label provided by that model. On the soundbar, select the input connected to the TV. Also check HDMI control, often called CEC: Samsung calls its implementation Anynet+ and its ARC instructions include enabling it. Sony advises checking Control for HDMI and selecting the audio system as the TV output. Names and menu paths vary, so consult the manuals rather than assuming one brand’s menu label applies to another.

Use an audio format both devices support
Digital audio-format options are model-dependent. Samsung Philippines’ guide discusses eARC mode and Pass-Through for its described setup. Sony notes that PCM may be needed if the connected audio system does not support DTS or Dolby Digital. These instructions are not interchangeable universal fixes: check both devices’ supported formats, then test a compatible setting. Sources: Samsung Philippines and Sony.

- Disconnect their power cables and the HDMI cable for two minutes.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable to the correct ARC/eARC ports, then reconnect power.
- Turn on the TV first, followed by the sound system, and check whether audio remains stable.
Check for current firmware or software for the exact TV and soundbar models. Sony includes updating both devices in its ARC/eARC troubleshooting. LG describes an update for a particular configuration involving surround sound without a rear satellite kit; that model-specific guidance does not establish firmware as the cause of dropouts on all soundbars. See Sony’s reset and update steps and LG’s audio dropout guidance.
Isolate the TV, source, cable, or soundbar
Change one component at a time. Try another source on the soundbar, another compatible device on the same TV, or a known-working cable. If possible, test the soundbar with another compatible TV. For ARC/eARC problems, disconnect other HDMI devices temporarily; Sony suggests this to help identify possible interference involving HDMI control.
- If the soundbar works with another device but not the TV, investigate the TV’s output, settings, port, or software.
- If the dropout follows one external source across connections, investigate that source or its connection.
- If changing to a known-working cable fixes the connection, the original cable or its suitability may be involved.
- If the soundbar also fails with a test source, contact the soundbar manufacturer or arrange service.
Samsung describes the source/device comparison in its soundbar troubleshooting guide; Sony’s ARC/eARC instructions include disconnecting other HDMI devices as an isolation check.
What the symptom can—and cannot—tell you
Dropouts can involve Bluetooth pairing, range, obstacles, or wireless interference; ARC/eARC compatibility, port choice, cable, HDMI control, TV or soundbar source selection, or audio-format support; or a fault in the TV, source, cable, or soundbar. Firmware is another possibility in particular device configurations. These are documented troubleshooting possibilities, not a ranking of how frequently each cause occurs. The useful clue is whether the fault follows a source or connection when you test another input, device, or cable.
