Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your Sony Bluetooth speaker is not charging, first check the exact model’s manual, then verify the cable, adapter and outlet. Sony speakers do not all use the same charging requirements, and a charge light that stays dark does not always mean the battery is not charging.
1. Find your speaker’s exact model and charging instructions
Locate the model number on the speaker or its support page, then open that model’s manual. The connector, compatible cable, adapter output, indicator behavior and reset procedure can vary. Sony recommends consulting the manual for model-specific charging information in its charging troubleshooting guide.

2. Check the cable, adapter and outlet
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable at both the speaker and the adapter. Make sure each end is fully seated.
- Confirm the adapter is firmly plugged into a working wall outlet. If possible, try another outlet.
- Use the cable and adapter supplied with the speaker, if available. For the SRS-BTS50, Sony also recommends checking the adapter with another device. See Sony’s SRS-BTS50 troubleshooting instructions.
3. Make sure the cable and adapter suit your model
Do not assume that a cable that fits the port is suitable for charging. Sony says some models may not charge with a USB cable that supports charging only and does not transmit data. Sony recommends the supplied USB cable or one conforming to the USB standard for applicable products; some cables or adapters may also charge more slowly. Check your manual before choosing a replacement.
Requirements can be model-specific. For example, Sony’s SRS-XB501G charging guidance specifies a USB Type-C cable and a USB AC adapter with an output current of at least 3.0 A for USB-adapter charging. Those requirements are for the SRS-XB501G and should not be applied to other Sony speakers. That guide also says to use the supplied AC adapter if USB-adapter charging is unavailable after the internal battery has been depleted or left unused for a long time.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Check whether the charge indicator is behaving normally
A dark indicator does not necessarily mean charging has failed. Sony says that on some models, connecting the supplied USB AC adapter while the speaker is on can charge the battery without lighting the CHARGE indicator. Turn the speaker off and check again, then use its manual to find the indicator and understand what its different states mean. Sony describes this behavior in its general charging guide.
5. Let the speaker charge under suitable conditions
Turn it off while charging
Charging can take longer while the speaker is playing. Sony recommends turning it off during charging so it can charge without being used at the same time.

Allow for temperature and a full battery
For applicable models, Sony says charging may stop or fail to complete if the battery is already full, the ambient temperature is outside 5 °C–35 °C (41 °F–95 °F), or there is a battery problem. Sony gives the same temperature range for the SRS-BTS50. Check your model’s manual for its conditions rather than treating this range as universal.

A reset control and its location are not the same on every speaker. Sony’s SRS-BTS50 instructions, for example, say to press the RESET button on the speaker’s left side with a thin object such as a small pin. Do not put an object into a port or opening on another model unless that model’s manual identifies it as a reset control and explains how to use it.

7. Contact Sony or arrange repair if charging still fails
If the speaker still will not charge after you have checked the connection, power source and model-compatible cable and adapter—and followed any reset procedure in its manual—Sony says repair may be required. Sony also says repair may be necessary for the SRS-BTS50 if its built-in battery life becomes extremely short. The cited guidance does not establish that every Sony speaker has a user-replaceable battery or a universal replacement part, so check with Sony support before attempting battery replacement.
