What the rumor says—and what is confirmed
The claim comes from a Reddit post whose title says SIE “recently opened its doors to licensing agreements and are accepting multiple game pitches.” It names Sly Cooper, Ape Escape and Killzone. The post is not an official Sony announcement, and its account of external development or funding and publishing arrangements is unverified.

Sony’s official materials cited here do not confirm a franchise-specific licensing program, a selected developer, or a project for any of the three series. “Accepting pitches,” even if the rumor proves accurate, would not mean a game has been approved, is in production, or has a release window.
Are Sly Cooper, Ape Escape or Killzone getting new games?

Sly Cooper is named in the rumor, but there is no official confirmation in the cited material that Sony is licensing a new Sly Cooper game or that one is in development.

Ape Escape
Ape Escape is also named in the post. Sony has not officially confirmed a new game for the series in the sources cited here.
Killzone
Killzone appears on the same rumor list. No official announcement in the cited material confirms a new Killzone project.
Sony’s documented route for independent games
Sony does publish a general process for independent developers seeking PlayStation consideration. In its April 7, 2026 guide, “Showing your Game to PlayStation,” John Vega, Director of Independent Partner Relations, and Shawne Benson, Director of Portfolio, describe these steps:

- Submit the title using the Independent Partner Title Form.
Sony says the form brings games to its teams for consideration for support such as editorial features, digital events and social promotion. It receives many submissions for limited support opportunities, and selection is not guaranteed. As the guide puts it: “Selection isn’t guaranteed, but your submission puts your game on our radar — and that awareness often becomes the starting point for future opportunities.”

Sony also says most indie success stories on PlayStation do not involve a formal deal. That is general guidance about indie publishing; it does not confirm a route to license dormant PlayStation-owned franchises. The published submission process and the rumored franchise-specific licensing route are different claims.

Sony’s separate Playerbase announcement describes a fan initiative, beginning with Gran Turismo 7, in which selected fans can have their likeness scanned and appear in a PlayStation game. Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Global Marketing, called it “a unique opportunity for PlayStation’s biggest fans to step into some of the biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned and appear within a PlayStation game.”
The announcement says the initiative may expand to additional PlayStation Studios titles. It concerns fan participation, not outside studios pitching new games based on older franchises, so it does not substantiate the Reddit claim.
